I see a lot of re-sales listed since the new year, any thoughts on this? Is this historically a trend?

I think its a sign of the times..Lots of people out of work. The first thing to go is the "vacation" items. Although it could be because of the amount of contracts and members that DVC has now. I think DVC has over 60,000 members so if only .05% want to sell that would be 300 people at one time that want out for what ever reason. my .0231415297 cents worth

Not exactly. 300 out of 60,000 is 1/2 of 1% or .5% - or in simpler terms 1 out of every 200. I'd think that is a fairly significant number. But, I do agree, it's probably a sign of the times.

On the flip side, what it shows is that there is a very liquid resale market for DVC contracts. Not that I'm interested in selling now, but if I had to or wanted to in the future, it's nice to know that it wouldn't be very difficult to sell.

I purchased my shares in 1997 at BWV and while I know that I have no plans to sell my shares it is very nice knowing that not only whould I get my money in a resale but at the prices they are going for I would make a small profit. All this while staying at the BWV for 5 wonderful vacations. My brother who purchased a time share in the Carribean wasn't so lucky, not only could he not unload it when he couldn't use, it went bancrupt and he is still trying to get his money from 6 yrs ago. Only with Disney do you get this type of security with a timeshare.

I would think that it could well be a seasonal thing. Annual dues comes up in January, maybe the thought of that payment (or the actuality) propmts people who've been thinking about selling for a couple of months to actually start marketting their ownership. Coupled with the fact that the holiday period may be one of the few times busy people get the time to fill in the required paperwork in order to sell.

You are right about a trend....but in my opinion, the reason is a bit different.

Since I started handling resales almost 6 years ago, one thing continues to repeat itself: Every time Disney announces a price increase, resales increase and inventory diminishes. As soon as the increase happens, inventory increases and sales diminish. Usually, about 6 months after the price increase takes affect, the market goes back to "normal" - at least until the next price increase announcement. :D

Just my opinion, hope it helps!

Best regards,
Shontell

Normally, I would agree. But with DVC I see it as more of an investment. Also, with the ease of renting points, a DVC membership could pay for itself and still allow for a family vacation.

Personally I don't view DVC as an investment. I don't thinks its wise to do so. Maybe some people just want out, changed circumstances whatever.
I do remember when the timeshare store had something to the effect of 10 re-sales on there web site I think that was in early 2001.
Do you think that some people have said "well, we've had DVC for 10 years now and we've enjoyed it lets sell and make a profit"?
