I have some questions about DVC. Thank you in advance for your help.

1. When you make a res. do you get a specific room with DVC - I know when you make a res. for WDW you get whatever is available? We are thinking of buying into AKV and if we want a SV with Concierge and I want to make sure I get a SV.

2. Also if we use our developer points - when can we book with them? I think I read 7 months out. Is that correct - even if we want the DVC that we bought into?

3. What kind of discounts do you get with your DVC at WDW? I know you get a $100 off annual passes. What kind of discount do you get for the water parks and dining?

I'm sure I will have more questions, it's early and my brain can't think of anything else!! LOL

When you call to make your reservation you can request that particular catagory and if its available you're all set, if not you can be put on a waitlist and if it becomes available than your request will be fufilled. Its always good to have a second choice just in case.

You have to use your developer points withing one year of getting them. You can use them at any resort you choose.

In addition to the AP discount you can get some smaller discounts on water parks/DQ/After hour parties but they are minimal, like under $10 in savings. There are also some dining discounts but those too are pretty limited. Although as a DVC owner you can buy the dining plan.

I'm sure I will have more questions, it's early and my brain can't think of anything else!! LOL

I sent you a PM with my guides name and number. He is fantastic and will be happy to answer any questions, big or small. There is no pressure and you can pick his brain all you want. Good luck and I hope I was able to help some!

The question about Concierge SV is not gauranteed.Because all Concierge is not SV.So you are not gauranteed that.I just thought I would let you know.Unless that has changed but thats what my guide had told me when AKV first started selling.
You can book 7 months out and they have to be used within a year.
I think yu get like 4.00 off WP and then you can get a disney dining card and i forget how much that is and you get 20% meals at certain restaurants.

This is correct and also:
There are only a possible maximum of 10 concierge rooms - either 5 two bedroom lock off units or 5 studios and 5 1 bedrooms or a combination such as 2 2 bedrooms and 3 each of studios and 1 bedrooms. There is no guarantee which one you will get unless it is HA booked for medical reasons through special services when you call MS. Don't know if those are SV or not.

You do not buy a specific unit with DVC. Instead, you buy points that can be used for any DVC unit that is available when you book your trip, or that you want to book. That is the beauty of DVC. If you need a studio one trip and then want a 3 bedroom grand villa the next trip, you can book that. Of course, it's easiest to get what you want by booking early. That is 11 months ahead at your home resort and 7 month ahead at other DVC resorts. If you REQUIRE Concierge Savanna view and that is all you will ever accept, then DVC is probably not for you. As others have pointed out, CC catagory at AKV is a VERY limited group of units (5 two bedroom lock-offs), so they will need to be booked right at 9 AM of the 11 month booking window, and then you might have to be lucky if you are trying to book for a popular timeframe. The good thing about the points system is that you aren't tied down to a specific unit or a specific timeframe. Heck, you aren't even tied down to a specific resort! Flexibility is the key to DVC.

When you book a ressie such as Concierge SV, the Concierge part is fixed if available when you book it, or you can wait list if not. All Concierge rooms are NOT SV, so they can put it down as a special request, BUT, special requests are something they can't promise but honor where and if they can.

My understanding is that Developer points can only be used in the 7 month window, even at your home resort, because they aren't tied to a certain resort. This would be the same as if you owned points at different resorts. You can't combine the points to make a ressie at your home resort for the total of the two contracts at 11 months out. Only your home resort points can be used to do that.

There are additional discounts with DVC. For meals, a limited number of restaurants and CS locations give a discount with your membership card. Typically, this is 10%. There is also a discount on a daily pass at the water parks I believe. Depending on the resort, there may be discounts also available for activities (such as the dolphin tour at HHI) or mini golf, and even a golf "membership" at the WDW resorts.

As for meals, on the main DIS boards there is a comparison between the different dining plans and the restaurants available. Based on what I have read, we plan to buy APs with the DVC discount, which allows us to purchase the DDE for $60 and use the 20% discount at many more restaurants and CS locations than the 10% DVC discount (although there is now an automatic 18% tip added to your check with DDE, but we would be paying a tip anyway of at least 15%, so not a big problem). The DDE also can be used for adult beverages where the DDP can't. Not sure about the DVC discount.

Thanks everyone for your answers. I would want a savanna view - that's the whole point of staying at AKV - IMO!! I also thought the concierge might be fun and a special treat for us to use our developers points.

We would also want to use our points at other DVC places at well. But I thought it would be good to trade for places that we want to visit - ME, NH, Baniff, WY etc.
