I've been on the DIS a lot today because I lost my voice (at least, that's what I keep telling myself!) I'm not really sick, just a little coughing here and there, but my voice is COMPLETELY gone, and its been like this since yesterday! Is it just rest that will do it, or is there something else I can try? My kids are loving it and getting away with murder because I can't yell at them anymore! :rotfl:

Did you look under the couch cushions? I always find things there.

I am subscribing to this too! I haven't had my voice for TWO WEEKS!! It's driving me crazy, not really sick, just that tickle and cough. I work in a school and they think I am dying, but I am not, just no voice, I think it creeps the kids out a little though!! LOL!

At this point, I am ready to try anything.....

I lost mine last month....the only thing you can do is rest. And DON'T WHISPER either. That is supposed to be worse than talking.

My family was not upset that I lost my voice....:rotfl2:

depends on the cause-

if it's inflamation (like from a virus or illness), you just have to let it heal.

if it's from overuse or straining it a treatment used by singers is to use a humidifier (the mositure in the air seems to help) or get the bathroom steamed up and breath it in.

Throacoat tea is usually what I use when I lose my voice. Honey also helps to soothe sore throats/quiet coughs. I know a number of professional singers who use Throatcoat tea every day to keep their throats in tip top shape. Our local grocery stores carry it in the tea/coffee aisle, usually with the more specialized tea blends.

My mom always told me to retrace my steps. :confused3

Go to the pharmacy and ask for Alkalol. It's usually kept behind the pharmacy counter, but you don't need a prescription.

Use it as a warm water gargle.

Tastes a bit odd but REALLY WORKS.

I have seen more than one musical theater lead have the show saved by using the product when they lose their voices around performance time.

Try Mucinex or a product like it with guafinisen (sp???). I went to the dr. once w/laryngits, but no other chronic symptoms and he said to use a mucous thinner because it was coating my vocal cords (gross, I know).

I find that drinking a glass of Donald Duck orange juice at night works to break up congestion in the morning.

However, the last time that I had laryngitis I had to get meds from the dr-- it just wouldn't get better.

:confused3 I'm just squeaking. But, losing your voice like that I have no clue about. I'd drink alot of water. ;)

UPDATE: My voice is back, but the hacking cough has started...looks lik the I was getting sick. I do think that liquids and rest is the only solution, because if I talked at all...I would lose it again!

And for the record...my family is wishing I hadn't gotten it back...they said it was nice not to hear mom complaining. :lmao:
