I noticed it was gone while doing laundry. Those prongs hurt!! I've looked everywhere, but no luck. Someone said to look at my homeowners policy, but what will that do? Darn, I've had that ring on my finger over 12 years. Advice, please!

Your ring may be covered under your homeowner's insurance policy, so that's why you should take a look (our rings are covered). It may be replacement cost equal to what was paid originally.

Bummer! Yes, call you insurance agent and see if you're covered for the loss of the diamond. I know that I have a special insurance rider for mine.

DH lost the diamond in his wedding band when we were in Russia. I shrugged and told him that we'd deal with it when we got home. I called the insurance company and he had the diamond replaced at their expense.

We do, however, have a separate rider for our good jewelry so we didn't have to worry or even pay a deductible on that claim.

Call your insurance agent and ask if you are covered under your homeowner's policy.

We are not homeowners so when DH bought the ring he bought the insurance policy that went along with it. Might want to check and see if you have one of those. It came right from the jeweler and they will fix or replace anything that is wrong with the ring in its lifetime.

I would also suggest that people who are reading this will learn from your misfortune and this get their prongs checked. Most jewelers will clean the ring/diamond and check the prongs for free.

I get my ring checked/cleaned every six months.

And for any renters out there, you can have it added to your rental insurance as well. I have my rings on our rental insurance policy. It costs almost nothing to insure them, and it's so worth it.

Usually the regular homeowner insurance only covers jewelry if it is stolen, unless you have a separate rider listing each valuable piece of jewelry. The regular insurance, without the rider, also usually has a limit for total jewelry covered in case of theft. A lost diamond usually needs to have a separate add-on policy to be covered even then sometimes wear and tear is not covered.

My heart goes out to you as it isn't just the cost, but also the sentimental value that can not be replaced.

One thing you mentioned was that you were doing laundry when you noticed it missing. I would even move the appliances to see if somehow your diamond fell out and went under the washer. Also, check the vacuum bag before throwing it out. Look at night with a flashlight to see if it catches the light.

Hopefully it is in your house and it will turn up!

Today, you have probably SAVED at least some other folks from the same fate. EVERYONE who reads this, if you have any kind of a gemstone ring that you wear constantly, TAKE IT TO A JEWELER FOR A TUNE-UP.

My story...
This is the year when I am taking care of things that I have been meaning to do but have kept putting off. One of them was getting my diamond looked at. So I happened to be with a friend when she was picking up some items from a jewelry store and thought it would be a good time for the jeweler to inspect/adjust/etc my ring.

I almost freaked when the counterperson showed me my diamond loosely MOVING within the prongs. One prong was almost worn away. I had to have a new set of prongs put on the old band, but it was worth it.

Also I have a blue topaz ring that I am very sentimental about. I tripped and hit my hand. The stone popped out. (This happened before the diamond was fixed and got me thinking I *really* needed to get the diamond looked at.) I had the stone put back in to the original, somewhat plain band at a place south of Richmond called "Lucky Lake Gem Mine'. They just used the old band and the gentleman said to be a little careful because the silver was a little weak & some of the prongs had gotten worn.
Well, I kept on thinking about it and wondering if I would lose that stone out of the ring (like I almost did with my diamond). The next time I went there I saw a silver band that I thought was gorgeous, so I had the stone placed within a brand-new setting that is much more secure. The combination of the stone & the setting is truly breath-taking.

I could have very easily lost *both* the diamond and the blue topaz. So the blue topaz saved the diamond and then the diamond pre-emptively saved the blue topaz.

agnes!

I'm so glad to be a public service announcement! :lmao: Actually, I'm not freaking out that much. Yes, I adore DH and all that but I'm being very calm. I'm not a jewelry person: My ears are not pierced and my wedding band and diamond are the only things that I wear. Even DH said "well, the setting drove you nuts, now you can get one that works better."

Is it strange that we're not going too crazy over this? I guess our love is all that really matters...:dance3:
