I was just reading an article in a travel magazine and it said that your luggage is never safe with the bell hop. Has anyone ever had any problems?

I have never had an issue with leaving my bags with Bell Services while in WDW resorts. If you leave the bags with them, they will give you a claim receipt...so if there is an issue, you're covered. I think that sometimes magazines/news shows tend to blow situations out of proportion, just to be more appealing.

I have never had a problem at Disney or hotels around the country. I agree that an article with problems gets noticed more than reporting there are no problems.

We have never had a problem .

But with the amount of bags and amount of CM just at WDW I'm sure some things have come up missplaced.

We did a Tree swap at SSR 2 years ago and I had to go back with them to find the tree. But that was left by the last person to use it and then again left by me for the next.

As I had some friends that worked Baggage handling at the airports I fell so much safer at Disney then the airport.

Once at a hotel in Boston, they delivered my bag to someone else's room. Took them a couple of hours to find it (once they knew it was missing), probably because the people were out for dinner and hadn't noticed the extra bag.

Once at a hotel in New York, they brought the wrong bags with the right claim numbers to us. We ended up searching through their baggage storage area and eventually found our bags - with the right numbers attached. Our best guess was that there was a set of claim tags with identical numbers floating around somewhere.

Never had any issues at WDW or elsewhere with lost bags or missing items from a bag left with a bellhop.

We have never had a problem leaving our bags with bell service and we have been going to WDW since the 1979. The only issues we have had was with the airlines (and fortunately it was only one time).

We checked our bags with the GF to have them transferred to the BW. Five hours later the BW claimed they never got them. The GF claimed they had delivered them to the BW. Then they said they might ahve delivered them to one of the other resorts, but weren't sure which, and their answer was they'd "show up eventually." Wrong answer.

A couple of hours more of back and forth and a senior manager from the BW got on the phone with a senior manager at the GF and the GF miraculously found them--in the GF luggage room. Then they had the gall to tell us we'd have to come over to the GF to pick them up or wait for luggage delivery the next day. The BW sent someone over for them for us, and sent us a little something to our room as an apology--when it was the GF all along who ahd messed up.

We never used WDW to transfer bags after that, it wasn't worth the stress.

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge last year during New years Holiday and
our kids back packs had locks on them and they were twisted and opened.

We lost our daughters $150.00 calculator and all the front desk did was
contact a manager - and the general comment was its a risk at all times and it should of had a thicker lock on it.

Then while staying there...The first day - a cell phone charger was taken from our room by housekeeping, we called and they replaced it - they said they have 1000's of them and the next day - housekeeping came and it was gone again....we locked up evrything in our suitcases after that.

This was our second time traveling that we lost something with Bell Services and we won't leave our bags anymore.

We left our luggage with bell services at AKL for a few hours the day we checked in (while waiting for our room to be ready). When we went to pick them up they had a hard time locating one of the bags. We ended up having to go back into the storage room and look through the shelves to identify our bag. I don't remember exactly what the issue was but I didn't think it was a big deal. I'm not sure I'd trust Disney to transport my stuff between resort though.

We have never had a problem with luggage at WDW, and we usually have a late flight out and store our bags all day at the resort on our last day.

The only time we have ever had a bag lost was DH on a conference in Vegas. He checked in and only had a small rolling duffel. They insisted on having bell services bring it up, and they lost it. It turned up the next morning...I'm sure he loved that knock on the door at 5 am!

WL makes you leave your luggage with them and they bring it to your room. I was furious about this since I never did that with any other Disney resort. We always just get a cart but they said they couldn't let us do that. I was afraid of something happening so we waited till someone came to take the bags to the room and we followed them.

Other WDW resorts let you take a luggage cart? Or hotels in other areas? I've seen hotels like Hampton Inns allow it because they don't have bellmen but usually big hotels will not let you.

1) You are NEVER mandated to leave your luggage with Bell Services
. . . you may always keep it with you and tote it yourself
. . . this is weather you bring it to the hotel or use DME
. . . they may ask strongly, but they will not insist you use bellmen
. . . it is your option
2) As for the luggage carts at Deluxe and Moderate resorts
. . . they are for the sole use of the bellmen
. . . tips are their pay
. . . without the carts, no tip
. . . so, you either tote your luggage or use bellmen
. . . it is your option
3) For previous above posts
. . . luggage does come up missing at resorts all the time
. . . usually it is eventually found, even if it was delivered to someone else
. . . occasionally, luggage is broken into while in Bell Services
. . . unfortunately, people are people, even at WDW

Not to be a huge complainer~which I could after our trip~but our luggage was delivered to the wrong room in the All Star Sports resort. :headache: We had dropped it off out front to go on our way to the parks, and when we got to the room it wasn't there. Thinking it would be delivered any moment, we hung around the room. Finally, I went down to the front where we had left it, gave them my name and info on the luggage. They said it had been delivered to the room, according to their records (a clipboard with highlighted marks). They searched for it, and finally I told them we wanted to make it to MK before the parade started, so I would check back in with them later. By the time we returned from the park, they were gone for the night, but luckily the luggage had been delivered to our room. Not sure how they found it, but it did have a sticker with another room's number on it. I'm sure that it was just because they were quite busy, but I'm not sure I will trust it again!:confused3

I did have a problem with my luggage on my last trip. I was staying in 3 resorts for 4 nights. When leaving Coronado Springs, I dropped my luggage with Bell Services to have it transferred to All-Star Movies. Then went off to the parks. My roomate checked us in and brought me my room key at the parks. When I arrived at my room at Movies about 1am no luggage. I went to the front desk and they looked in the luggage room and had me look in the luggage room and no luggage. She called over to Coronado Springs and they had it in their logs that they had delivered it. The luggage services manager wouldn't be on duty till 7am, and by now it was 2:30am and I was supposed to be at Magic Kingdom at opening, so nothing left to do but go to bed. I borrowed a t-shirt from my roomie, took a shower, and went to bed. I was back up at the luggage services stand at 7am and spoke with the manager. He told me that within the hour I would have my bags or a voucher for a change of clothes and a toothbrush.

Well, as it turns out, when my bags were delivered to All-Star Movies, the luggage person read the dates wrong and thought I had already checked out. They went to the trouble to see if I was still at Disney and found I was at Pop Century the next night and sent my luggage on over there. The luggage manager at Movies drove his personal vehicle over to POP and got my luggage for me. I changed into fresh clothes, gave them back my luggage to send to POP and made it to the Magic Kingdom on time.

When I got to POP the next night, my bags were in my room exactly as they were supposed to be.

Yes it was a bit frustrating, but I didn't miss any park time, only missed a couple hours of sleep and the ability to charge my camera and cell phone overnight. The manager made good his promise, and I WILL continue to use Bell Services/Luggage Services to the full extent.

Not my situation, but a friend of mine during the same time period as my last trip transferred from Pop Century to AKL. All of their bags transferred just fine except for one. It was a daypack that had his car keys (car parked at Buffalo airport) and a couple of changes of clothing for his overnight hotel stays in Buffalo (lives in Canada). He didn't really need it immediately while at WDW, so just kept checking with Bell Services periodically. After two days, decided he needed to replace his car keys, so had a local friend drive them to the dealer and was able to get a new car key made. Then the day before going home, they decided to try one more thing. They got on a house phone and started calling all of the Bell Services stations at all the resorts and finally found the bag at Grand Floridian. It had been sitting there for four days and they weren't sure why. They were able to locate the bag in 15 minutes where it took the Disney folks 4 days of looking and never found it.
