Lost & Found after park closing?

So, having lost items multiple times in the park, we have taken to dropping the items off at lost & found in the esplanade, rather than giving them to the nearest CM. The reason for that is that they won't get processed and make their way up to lost and found that day (and maybe not even the next day), while if we drop them off at lost & found ourselves, the person might get the item back that day. So, my daughter found a lost item on our way out of the park a closing. We went to leave it with lost & found, but it was closed. I could have sworn it had been open after park closing before, but perhaps I was mistaken? Does anyone know if lost & found normally stays open past park closing?

I would guess that Lost & Found stays open until DL closes for it's normal operating day (i.e., it won't stay open for a special event, like the After Dark one a few days ago). That being said, I would probably opt to drop off the item at Guest Services inside the park if you're there at or just after closing. At least then you know that it'll make it to L&F and you won't have to hold onto it until the next day if L&F is closed when you get there.

On a side note, I have had items show up in Lost & Found the same day that they were lost. I think it all depends on how busy the CMs are, so while perhaps that was an anomaly, it can happen.

How long are lost and found items held?

I lost an item, and it was found. But I can't make it back to DL until Sunday.

I seem to recall that I lost a hat or something a few months ago (which I later re-found) and a CM told me that they’d mail it to me if recovered. I could be confusing this with another situation (I was given a form to complete to have them send me... something). Has this been anyone else’s experience?

From my experience it goes by a step by step process until it makes its way to the lost and found that's in the Customer Service Area right in front of Disneyland's entrance. My gf had lost her ID the day before in California adventure and it went from the the booth where it was found- to the Lost and found in Cali Adventure- then by the next morning it went to the Customer service area to the left of Disneyland I would assume just in case someone lost an item and no longer had tickets to get into the parks to look for the items. Then we signed and released for it so at the Minimum 24 hours.

I'm not sure how long they are willing to hold on to items. But here is my recent experience. I had lost something on a Wednesday. I reported it missing the next morning. I got a phone call that Sunday, four days after I had lost the item. They told me it was found. I asked the Cast Member on the phone if I could pick it up on a Saturday nearly two weeks after they called me. He said that was fine. I picked it up that Saturday, two and a half weeks after I had lost the item.

Incidentally, just this week, Disneyland started using an online system for reporting lost items. You can visit http://disneyland.com/lostandfound to file your report. Unless there is some urgency and you feel like the item is likely to have made its way there already, there is no need to line up at the Lost and Found windows to file a report.

My son lost a baseball cap about 4 or 5 years ago (left under the seat in Star Tours which I’m sure happens all the time). It was black with a white logo. We went through the whole “we keep it at the ride for awhile then send it to lost and found” thing. Eventually we checked at lost and found and filled out the form. We checked back for the rest of our trip but it never turned up. They said they would mail it to us if they ever found it. A few weeks later, long after we had given up, a package arrived in the mail from Disneyland! It was a baseball cap! Unfortunately, it was light brown (and very dirty). I phoned to thank them for trying and see if they wanted it back but they declined.

So, yes, they will take an address and send an item, even to Canada - but it may not be the right item! It was very nice of them to make the effort though. And it gives us a good story.

By the way OP, I think it’s very thoughtful of you to go out of your way to take the item straight to lost and found so that someone might recover it sooner! I’m sorry I can’t help with your original question of when it closes.

In my experience, Lost & Found was open until the park was cleared. But that was a number of years ago. Maybe it's changed. You could probably have just left the item at City Hall, or with the Main Gate supervisors.

One thing I have done for all of our trips is print all of my local contact info and cell number on an index card.
I put one in everyone's backpack or cinch bag.
That way if it is lost it is easier to contact us if it is turned in.

On cell phones and cameras we take a picture of the index card so it will have info too.
