Hi guys! I'm soo confused right now, can you help me?


I had someone buy something from me at my online store and they sent me British pounds...as in cash! YIKES! So how do I find out if this is the right amount? I'm so confused as I asked for a money order.

I have in my hand:

5 Pounds Sterling

and 10 pence??

What is this in American Dollars?


And how do I change it? Just go to the bank?

£5.10 is about $10.30

You probably can exchange them at your bank, but I know that here in the UK we would be charged to convert dollars to pounds and for such a small amount we would probably lose most of the money in commission

Thank you so much! I kind of figured that, which is why i'm really upset she sent cash as it costs money to exchange and that is not even the right amount...grrr...

I use paypal for transactions, even to convert to dollars from pounds. I know this still costs a fee but not a huge amount. Credit card has no fee and usually a better exchange rate. I would suggest returning the cash or asking for a higher amount taking into consideration the exchange fee.

I asked for PAYPAL or Money Order, and got this. I needed to find out the exchange rate and then what they would charge me to convert it 4.00$ So I knew how much she still owed me. Now I told her I will keep that and she can send me the rest via paypal or I will send it back minus the shipping since this is not what we agreed upon. Thanks again! My bank didn't do the exchange, so it's a good thing I live by an airport and was able to call and find out information
