I'd also recommend installing and using the Photos app from Google. Set it to automatically sync all of your photos (this is free if you let Google resize the photos to 16 mega-pixel). With that set up, if the same scenario were to happen again, the photos you had taken with the phone on the cruise would have started to sync as soon as the phone was back on the cellular network at port.

There are similar apps from Amazon (Prime Photos), Apple (also called Photos, but only on iPhone) and others. If you're paranoid, like me, use more than one of them!

None is perfect or oder free.
But leaving bags unattended or behind does cause a lot of drama and security issues for everyone. I did wish the OP well in finding her bags through lost and find. But we all need to be more aware of our actions or inactions that have repercussions on others. If that bag had raised a security alert and the area was evacuated, I'm sure you and others would be peeved to be delayed in getting to your flight or home?
A simple bag count before and after would solve this, and prevent lost bags whilst waiting for transfers.

But as above and before, I hope the OP does get their bag back with the photo's intact on their phone. Sorry it my comment came across differently to how I meant it to.

Well....no luck....I guess it's a goner...more than 3 weeks later...bummed!!!! I call the phone and it goes straight to voicemail...when I go to track it ...it says last on line on the 21st which was the day I lost it...... location not trackable though.... seriously this has made me crazy....
