Loss of Use within a car rental policy

When wanting to purchase extra insurance on a car rental that includes Loss of Use, what would the Loss of Use fall under with a policy? Would a rental agency sell you extra insurance without the Loss of Use provision included?

That is what I thought. I want to make sure if we do decide to rent a car, that the LOU is included in a policy that we will buy through the acengy, and I was wondering what part of a policy it should be listed under.

The very best thing you can do to make sure you get the coverage you want is to ask the agent at the counter when you pick up your car.

Each company has its own contract so I can't tell you exactly where to find what part of a policy the LOU is listed under.

No way would I trust the desk agent on what the added insurance covers.

OP, if I was that concerned, I would first call my auto insurance company and find out if they sell a "temporary"/"rental car" policy. Maybe not, but never hurts to ask.

I just looked up Allianz to cover our rental car April 18-25, 2026 and was quoted $104. Not bad! All things considered.

Went by 4 criteria - Within USA, travel dates, my age, my state of residence

I get the same coverage by paying $20 and paying for the rental on one of my AMEX cards. You would also get the same coverage if you paid for the rental car with a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve, or with a Capital One Venture X card.

I have read nothing but good reviews of Allianz and that is who I will go with if we do rent a vehicle.

CapOne Venture X has a $395 annual fee.
Chase Sapphire Reserve is $795
Preferred is at least $95.

My CC (CapOne Venture Signature) is $59/year and has the coverage.


I do suggest OP check with their CC to confirm it's not included.
