I just wanted to post and check in on this board. I am doing good this week. I do weight watchers and I am counting all my points and I have been good with them. I also exercised 3 times this week and I think I am going to exercise this morning to make it 4 days. :yay:

I did a good thing and a bad thing yesterday. It is my time of month (TOM)...sorry guys, and I was craving chocolate, ladies you know what I mean. :lmao: and at work one of our customers brought in cookies and munchkins from the doughnut shop. I wanted to eat them all so bad but the good thing I did was I resisted them and did not eat them at all. :woohoo: Then I came home and did the bad thing, my son realized he still had a big giant Hershey bar left over from Easter so I had a few chocolate squares...dipped in peanut butter. :sad2: The good thing was that I did not eat the WHOLE giant bar and I counted all the points for the chocolate and the peanut butter so it is alright. I guess I can also look at it as it's good I did not eat all the doughnuts AND all the chocolate. Right? Anyway, on weight watchers they give you the 35 extra points for days like that. You just have to track the points and that is exactly what I did.

Today I work a 12 hour day and I bring all the food I am going to eat with me so I should have no problem. It's actually a little easier to stick to it at work, except when we get goodies from customers.

Alright ladies, I have to go get my kids ready for school, get my butt ready to workout and get myself ready for my long day at work. I hope everyone has a great day.

BTW...look at my ticker...2 weeks from today and I will be at WDW! :cheer2::yay::banana::cool1::dance3:

I feel your pain with TOM, you did good by not eating the whole candy bar.
Good luck at work - 12hr day- WOW - what line of work are you in?

Two weeks and then your in the world - yeah you
Have a good day!

I still have only lost two pounds and I lost that before I started all my exercising this week. :confused3 UGH!!!!!!
Oh well, today is another day!

Hi Karbear,

Don't worry about how much you have lost with the exercising. I have noticed that sometimes it takes a week for our body to react to the exercising. You lost 2 pounds and that is awesome. :cheer2: Keep up the great work.

I worked out 4 days last week and when I stepped on the scale this morning I was down 1 pound. Do I wish it was more...of course but all I can do is take it one day at a time and eventually I will make it back to my goal weight. I also noticed that sometimes when I lift weights too close to the day I weigh in it can show a little gain or stay the same. I try to do weights in the beginning of the week and more cardio towards the end of the week.

Anyway, I plan to workout at least 4 days this week and hopefully next week I will have a bigger number to report but as long as keep losing I will be happy.

You asked about my job. I work as a pharmacy technician at CVS. It is a crappy job but the hours are really good. No...not the 12 hour day but the rest of the week. I have 2 boys who are 13 and 11 and I like to be home with them but I need to work. CVS lets me work Monday through Thursday from 9:00 to 3:00 so I am home when the boys get home from school at 3:30. I do not work weekends so I choose to work a 12 hour day on Friday so it gives me enough hours in the week to get paid vacation days and paid holidays. So this way I am only away from the kids on Fridays. If the pay was better I would love it but I am only there because of the hours.

I am actually freaking out a little because now that my boys are getting older I feel like I need to get a real job or career but I did not go to college. I tried it for a little while but it was not for me. I got married young and never thought I would have to have a career. Stupid I know but I thought taking care of the kids was my job. Now I am going to be 40 years old in November and I am thinking my kids are getting older, I am going to have to do something. I don't know what to do. I know I should go to school to do something but we need my paycheck and I would like to do something that I would enjoy but the only thing I like is watching TV and going to WDW. :happytv: I was thinking of going to school to become a pharmacist but it is 6 years of college and very expensive and I just don't think at my age I have the drive to do it. I want something that maybe will be 2 years of school and come out and get a great job. I know I am living in a dream world but I feel like a little kid who does not know what she wants to be when she grows up. :confused3 Any ideas? My dream job would be to move to FL and be one of those VIP tour guides and take the celebrities around the parks. That would be fun.

Anyway...sorry I rambled on and on here. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Wow I'm glad I found this thread! I've been wanting to try to lose weight for a while now, but I always find a reason to put it off...well, the other day, I went for physical and the doctor weighed me. Let me just tell you how SHOCKED I was at the number that was staring at me from that scale! :scared1: I almost broke down in tears right there in the office. She told me to go get blood tests so I can check my cholesterol and blood sugar, you know, because I'm overweight (that's actually how she said it :sad2:).

So that's pretty much gotten me motviated to do something about myself FINALLY. I have no excuse as to why I can't excercise, I have an elliptical machine in my own house so I don't have to go to the gym, I don't have any kids yet to take care of, my boyfriend works nights so I barely see him during the week, so I'm going to start coming home from work and using that elliptical every day! I'm also thinking about going for walks on my break at work. I'm not sure what to do about the eating though, I've been on weight watchers before and really liked it, I just don't think I want to do meetings right now. Maybe I will join online or something.

So I'll keep checking back in to see how you're all doing and to give you updates on my progress! I'm going to Disney at the end of Sept. so I hope to lose a significant amount of weight by then!

So NOT stupid! You've been a mom that was there for her kids! That's such a hard job sometimes. And such a blessing to be. There's a lot of options with just 2 years of training - vet tech comes to mind, but I'm an animal person and not everyone is. And w/ being a veterinarian technician, you don't have to work in a vet's office, but you can work in a lab, etc.

There are a lot of options, and from the posts I've read of yours, you're a very intelligent woman who I'm very certain has a lot of talents. I know you'll find the right one. I also know it's a very scary thing to be looking at. Here's the thing. You can always adjust your hours after the boys have graduated and do a night school thing. Or, you can keep your job. Will you need to bring home a bigger paycheck? Maybe you can even look for a different job that you like more w/out the schooling. The job market is scary now, but I know you'll find what will work for you.

Loralie:
1st - thanks for the encouragement. It was a nice thing to read after coming home from a walk and playing on the swings with my daughter-she's six, to big for a stroller but can't make it the 1 1/4 mi around our neighborhood-but the extra weight pushing a stroller gives me some resistance walking.
I just started adding some weight machines at the gym this week and next week I made a promise to myself to go to the gym 3 times rather than two.

2nd- DO NOT put yourself down about not going to college! You are absolutely right- it is not for everyone. And I don't know where you live but here in NY a pharmacy tech can be a good job/career. I think that those two words job and career are used to loosely....In my opnion a career is doing something you love that you get paid for and a job is something you are doing until you find the career. In my opinion it has NOTHING to do with education or pay scale. If you are happy with being a tech at a pharmacy then that is your career, if not then call it a job. Our very close family friends own a local pharmacy and they have had some techs there for over 25 years and they are a valued piece of their operation, so I would say it is their career....
Anyway, if you are not happy there after your boys are older and you don't need to stay there for the hours then think about something you may like and seek it out. Something that comes to mind in the same field you are working in is the billing that pharmacies go thru. My friends, that I spoke about, often promote techs into the billing aspect of their pharmacy and working to get paid by the insurance companies.
Another thought is, if you love traveling, what about working at a travel agency like AAA or Liberty Travel, usually they have their own training, no college is required.
Don't think the doors are closed b/c you are turning 40 soon. I believe in you- believe in yourself!
I went to college and now I work with my father, so did I really need the 4 year private college degree to do that - not really - but 19 years ago I didn't know what I would be doing in life. OMG I just realized I started college 19 years ago in 1990....I am SO OLD!!!

3rd - I think we have a lot in common.:)

Ok, I have to go make lunch for my little hunrgy monster.

Keep smiling!:cool1::cool1::):)

Thanks for the encouragement. I do live in NY and maybe working in a chain store like CVS is the problem. I really don't mind the job itself...it's the customers and the way CVS treats the employees. I was thinking of working at a mail order pharmacy if I can find one close to where I live. That would solve the customer problem. I don't know if they pay the same but at least we would not have to deal with the problems of the customers on a daily basis.

I also would like to find something that pays better but I feel I need more schooling for that so that is where I get confused on what to do.
Anyway...again, I am sorry for rambling on and on...

Thanks guys, I do feel better.

We have 48 days til our Kidani Village DVC trip (our first as DVC members) I am wondering how much weight I can lose in 48 days - maybe 15 lbs? if I try hard.

I have been trying with no success since Jan - I keep losing my motivation. Now time is running out. I'm going to try and use this board to keep myself accountable .

Today 194lbs -

Ideal weight 167 -

Just finished an excellent workout. :yay:

I've enjoyed all your stories - I'll be back

BTW - i think all these smiley faces are really cute!

Loralie, I'll second the "you sound like a very thoughtful, intelligent women". I think this is a perfect forum to vent and get support. We are your "peeps", fellow dis-ers that can understand you! I think you just need to do some soul searching and that you will be led to live your life in the best way possible. I think being a mother is one of the best and hardest careers we will ever have. I don't think you can go to college to be a professional mom (or can u) but it doesn't make it any less fulfilling. Whatever, is in store for you, all we can do is give it 100%. As a previous poster, said "any job can become a career". It's how we look it--I know you said that yourself-"It's all a mind set". Oh, and last of all--Oprah always says follow your passions and you will meet success. I wish Oprah would run for president!!!! I hope she "cracks the code" on how to loose weight and keep it off, before Kirstie Alley does!

Thanks, I am sorry I went on and on...I know this board is not the place for this. I am not an animal person but I will keep looking for a better job. Thanks again. I feel a little better about it now. I guess I needed to vent.

Do NOT be sorry about going on and on....we are all in this together.
When I start to vent I start to eat..so for me stress, venting, eating, loosing weight it's all the in the same boat.....

We are here for you!!!!!:cheer2:

I saw Kristie Alley on a brief tid bit on Oprah and it made me feel a bit better that there are famous people just like us. If we had a trainer everyday we could lose 70 lbs and the minute the trainer went away we would gain it back. It is nice to see a normal real person in Hollywood acknowledge we all can't be a size 2.

Okay weight lose warriors, I bought a new scale today. I weigh 154 LBS. Ugh. I also bought a new balance ball. If I can keep the kids off of it I plan on using it. The plan for this week is to do the step 3 times this week and the ball 2 times. I am rededicating myself to this program. I have really been slacking off in the exercise dept., but no more! Watch out skinny people soon I will be one of you!

DH decied to cook pancakes and bacon for dinner tonight - the kids love breakfast for dinner but that was not a good dinner for my first day of being good. I debated about having a lean cuisine but then decided to eat with the family but moderately. Had one pancake and one piece of bacon - not too bad I think. If I am hungry later I will eat a piece of fruit.

Be good everyone.

Good plans! I wonder how coordinated you have to be to use the balance ball. :confused3 Let us know how that goes!

What's your goal weight? I'm super happy with 154 because I hadn't seen that number in a loooooooong time. I'm attending WW and they recommend for my age and height to be at 119-137 which I find totally unrealistic. I haven't seen those numbers pre-babies! Heck, I was a teenager when I saw those numbers! I don't think I'd look healthy at that weight. I started at 169 so 154 represents a lot of hard work for me! My goal is 147.

:cheer2: Proud for you! I'm trying these new drinks called FUZE and when I get cravings I drink one. At WW this week they reminded us that if we eat after 7:00 we probably won't have time to burn off the calories. I'm going to be good about not eating after 7:00 so I can make this a lifetime habit!

Karbar! lol I now work for my father, too, and I started college in 1991. So glad there are others like me. I have to stay, I'm still working there as my mom is Stage 3 Alzheimers, so it's easier to care for her and keep the office running if she comes up. We're just not ready to put her in a home yet. Although, that time is coming very fast now.

Loralie. IMO it sounds like you've accomplished a lot in your life. I'd say far more than I have. No kids, no hubby, just a job and the animals. I also agree that this is a good place to vent like that. Stress affects the body in so many negative ways. I know you're going to find exactly what you want to do and love it. I often feel like I have no clue what I'm going to do once I "grow up" - and I'm in my mid 30's. Kinda feeling pressure that I should decide soon. :)

Thanks for the encouragement and kind words everyone. I am feeling the  on this board and I appreciate it. I think turning 40 is really freaking me out and making me think I have to have a career before then and I am putting unnecessary pressure on myself. I do wish I had a better paying job and that is what I am going to work on. I do feel better so I just wanted to say thanks again.

As for the losing weight part...I did lose a little on the scale when I weighed in on Saturday. I still have to lose 6 more pounds to make it back to my weight watchers goal and 12 pounds total to make it to my personal goal. I was not that great this weekend with the food. We had company and we had had ice cream and homemade cookies. I only had a little bit of the ice cream but a few too many cookies. :sad2: I have to be really good during the week with the food and exercise.

You guys were talking about the numbers on the scale. My goal weight is 140 so right now I am at 152. When I got down to 140 people in my family were telling me I was getting too skinny and I should gain back some of the weight. I know I am not too skinny but those comments do mess with your head. A pharmacist I work with is 140 pounds and says she is so heavy she wants to lose 20 pounds and get back down to 120. To me she looks a little overweight and then in my head I am freaking out because I weigh more than her so I feel like I must look really overweight but logically I know that 140 is the right weight for me. The numbers get to me a little. I wish a normal weight for me was 120 so when I hear someone complain how heavy they are at a weight that is lower than mine it would not freak me out. Does this make sense? :confused3 Logically I know it is a good number for me but when I hear someone complain how they need to lose weight and they weigh less than I do, it bothers me.

Anyway...I have to get going and get the kids ready for school. Get ready to workout and then get myself ready for work.

Have a great day,

Loralie

The numbers get to me a little. I wish a normal weight for me was 120 so when I hear someone complain how heavy they are at a weight that is lower than mine it would not freak me out. Does this make sense? :confused3 Logically I know it is a good number for me but when I hear someone complain how they need to lose weight and they weigh less than I do, it bothers me.

Anyway...I have to get going and get the kids ready for school. Get ready to workout and then get myself ready for work.

Have a great day,

Loralie

Your goal weight is just for you. I don't like it either when people who weigh less than me talk about their need to lose weight either. Especially when they are at my goal. But everyone is different. I'm a shorty so i just look big at this weight. If I were 5-6 inches taller I would be the perfect weight. I haven't grown any taller since 5th grade, and I'm guessing that early 30's growth spurt is not going to happen. Don't worry about the cookies to much. As long as you don't make it an everyday thing you should be okay. Good luck to you.

I am home today with a sick kid. Dr at 2pm, and I'm hoping it is not strep. Work was crazy this morning and I'm just glad my supervisor was cool with me having to leave early.

Hi there. I just found this board and I am thrilled. You guys are an inspiration!!!

Little about me, I weighed about 97 pounds for a long time, joined the Army gained a ton of weight then had my 2 older boys. After years of being extrememly overweight I started WW and lost 50 pounds, it wasn't where I wanted to be but it was great. Then as fate would have it I had my 3rd son. Since he was born I gained 30 pounds more then when I gave birth. I yo-yo'd for a while and started WW again 2 weeks ago. I have lost 4.4 up until today (weigh in tonight).

I am 5 2 (and a half :))
Current weight 194.4

I decided to do things a little different, I hate exercise and I hate walking/running. So I bought a bike, I have a path near our house that is 3.5 miles and I ride about 3-4 times a week. IT IS TOUGH, but I love it!!! And I can tote the little one (now 2 1/2) in the cart behind the bike.

We have our next trip to Dis in October, I refuse to be so big and out of shape that it ruins my trip. The last couple years it has made it incredibly difficult!!!

So that's my story, I look forward to continue learning, supporting, and enjoying those of you on this thread!!!!:wizard:
