Losing our Disney reward money

Who all out there thinks that we may soon see an end to our Disney reward money with our Disney Visa, with the new credit card laws that will probably be going into effect. I am really worried Chase will cut us out of this. This is how I usually pay half of our bill.

Let's just say I plan to use all my reward dollars by the end of the year to be sure I don't lose them, and then if the program continues I'll just consider it "gravy."

I would say it is extremely unlikely. This is a popular card for Chase, and I'm sure they make lots of money on it. They may tighten their standards on approving credit for people due to the provisions in the new law, but they won't do away with the program. And any dollars you've already earned will be honored even if they were to cease the program. To do otherwise would be a public relations disaster.

I doubt they will discontinue it, but the perks won't be as great. For most of 2008 we were offered various "earn 5x rewards" on certain categories. We have yet be offered that once in 2009.

I've had the same thought. I may cash them out & purchase our AP's. I'm hesitant to do this though before I see the deals for next year as we may have to purchase 1 day tickets with a package.

I wonder how they decide this. We weren't offered it in 08, but we've been offered it twice in 09.

I have been cashing in ALL my reward dollars as soon as I have at least the minimum. I was afraid that at least one of my companies would file bankruptcy or something.

From the news reports that I have been watching they are saying that higher interest rates, more difficulty in getting cards, lower credit limits as well as fees to those of us who pay our bills in full each month will be the result of this much needed IMO overhaul.

I have been noticing more signs offering discounts for cash, like the old days, so I shall divest myself of any cards that want me to pay any fees. My FICO score only matters if I want to borrow money and I do not.

the rules and rewards change for the worse.

I use the card for convenience; I pay in full each month and pay early each month; I can get a debit card instead or pay with check again, etc. Forget it! If they want their 3% from the vendors, the credit card companies better be careful and not play around with their pay on time customers. If they truly can't make enough money off of us who pay on time, they should change their management. For years the companies have been satisfied with this arrangement and obviously did alright by it.

I'm not going to go on and on, but we can't keep going along with companies who don't know how to manage money when that's there business.

I don't think they'll drop the program, because their are so many better programs out there. Don't get me wrong, I still try to rack up as much as possible on my disney visa...but you only earn 1% of what you spend. I don't think they are losing too much.

But look at the bright side, those of us who are have been responsible with credit will now get to help those who have not been responsible get to Disney too!!

Back in the good old days I could often get a discount of 3-6% or somtimes more on many purchases, by paying cash. I see a few local gas stations offering 5 cents off a gallon which is still better than the reward cash.

The Disney rewards can basically only be used toward Disney stuff so they might stick around. I am holding onto my card in case they offer Free Dining again in December.

I am making sure to use all of my cards nowadays even though it is a giant pain to have to write all those small checks. Because of the reward cards I went from an almost always cash person to charging everything. I am adaptable.

If they want to charge me a fee I hope they are adaptable. If they lose those of us who pay on time who are they going to make money off of? They just want to continue to rake in the big bucks while everyone else pays. Some folks are taking their money out of the places that caused a lot of this and are taking bail out money. Sounds like a good plan to me.

Some folks were irresponsible but some were also tricked. I hate to admit it but if I had been much younger in the previous climate I might have fallen for the hype as well. Timing, everything is timing.

Nope, not here. I might see an announcement of one and then they will see my cancellation letter. I earn interest, I do not pay it. It is my mantra.

BTW, where the heck were the government watchdogs when the credit card companies did all these things? My heart goes out to those who are trapped. Usury laws used to be enforced. Even God only wants 10%.:confused3

All the financial gurus who used to say to pay down your cc debt are now all saying to build up a good savings account and let the cc companies hang. Interesting. I shall go think on the ramifications of that one. Oops. They will just raise our taxes to bail them out. :scared1:

I sure hope not...I love to spend my dollars at the park pirate:
