Losing confidence in Yachtsman Steakhouse

DH and I have an ADR for YS but the recent reviews have us worried, i.e., quality has gone down, food not up to par, poor service. etc.

Anyone else have recent positive experiences esp. with the food? Please let us hear from you. :goodvibes

We're leaning towards ditching YS in favor of Blue Zoo. I also had AP in mind but for that particular night, we are going to be in EPCOT/MGM.

Help!

TIA! :cutie:

We have ADRs for the YS in a couple of weeks. This will be our 4th time there. We have always had a delicious meal and had absolutely nothing to complain about. My whole family can't wait to go.

IMO, Bluezoo is currently the best restaurant on property and Artist Point is also still very good. Yachtsman's steak isn't that good, also IMO.

My wife and I joined some friends there two weeks ago and while my ribeye steak was done right, her prime rib had to go back twice and was still not correct. I have to say that for the price, I was NOT impressed.

Two things I always remember.

1. People are much more likely to post about a negative experience than a positive. Everyone has different experiences-you and I may both be at Applebee's. I have a horrible waiter who brings out the wrong food, isn't attentive, etc. And you may have a fabulous server who makes your evening wonderful.

2. Take everything you read here with a grain of salt. While I respect everyone's opinion's, I don't allow them to deter me from anything I want to do. If you really don't want to eat at Yachtsman, try a different place. If you want to go, then go. In the end, you'll probably have a fabulous trip anyway.

We're trying Yachtsman for the first time next month and we can't wait!

Sandy :)

Why read reviews then? I personally have no axe to grind with Yachtsman other than the last three meals I had there just weren't very good, especially for the money. I have consistently given GREAT reviews to Bluezoo (at the Dolphin) and if it's steak you want (specifically, I recommend The Palm at Universal first or Shula's at the Dolphin).

Further, everyone needs to find their comfort zone with reviews to be sure. There are some posters that I trust implicity due to their even handedness in proffering their reviews. People who eat at Flying Fish one time and post an "I'll never eat there again" post because the steak was charred (duh) doesn't hold my attention very long. I think all restaurants deserve the three strikes before they're out rule and frankly Yacthsman's struck out...Not to mention the fact that bugs are sometimes served with their salads.;)

I ate there twice last month. Had dinner with my husband everything was excellent. The following week I had dinner there with my daughter and again everything was excellent and our server was beyond excellent. In all the times we have eaten there which is at least twice a year for the past 10 years we have only had one bad experience with the food. Like anywhere there are good and bad days. I honestly think if something isn't up to your standards you just have to say so and they will do their best to correct whatever the problem is. Enjoy your dinner where ever you go!!

We were there in December (during the busiest week ever ---- XMas and NYE) and loved it. The service was the best I have had at *ANY* restaurant on or off property and the food was wonderful. It is a relaxing and very enjoyable meal. You should definitely give it a try! :)

Well, my DH and I had dinner there on Saturday August 11 and we both agreed it was terrific!
We were seated on time for our 7pm ADR. Our server, Li, was friendly, quick and knowledgable. Outstanding service.

The food was excellent, appetizers through dessert. Not one complaint.

We used our Disney Dining Experience card.

I would highly recommend this restaurant based on my recent experience.
I believe in trying things and forming your own opinions. :)

I hope you have a wonderful meal wherever you choose.

We ate there in mid-July, twice (we always eat there the night we arrive and the night before we leave). Everything was perfect. We were seated right away, we had a fabulous server, got a great quiet table. The food was the best it's been in a couple of years! My potatoes were so hot I had to wait to eat them. The filet was cooked perfectly and was so tender it just about fell apart. Everyone was very happy with the meals. We had been a bit disappointed last year, but this time everything was beyond great both nights.

We dined there in July and like my 3 previous experiences there, everything was amazing. :thumbsup2

Maybe perspective is in order. I love steak. My favorite is Ruths' Chris followed by The Palm, Del Frisco and Shula's. Yachtsman is a nice atmosphere and with a good CM a great dining experience can be had. That said, even my best steak at Yachtsman doesn't compare to the worst steak I've had at a Ruths' Chris. Note: An astirisk for great steak goes to Flying Fish who continually serve a FANTASTIC charred NY Strip (but they're not a steakhouse and only serve one steak and the charred steak isn't to eveyones liking).

So can a good and enjoyable meal be had at Yachtsman? Undoubtedly so, I just don't think the steak will be of the caliber a true 'steak lover' would enjoy (although the prices won't reflect the lowere quality).
