Lose RO reservation to book DDP?

We are preparing to call and book a RO reservation at 499 days out as we require an accessible room and there only appears to be 1 or 2 rooms in any of the accessible booking categories and our 1st choice resort.
My question is this: If we call back later and attempt to add DDP do we run the risk of losing the reservation? I understand that it changes from a room only to a package reservation and different rules apply but I am most concerned about the potential of losing the accessible room reservation during the changeover.

Since changing from RO to a package (and vice versa) requires you to cancel and rebook, there is a chance you could lose the accessible room. With that said, if you do decide to change to a package, have the CM check availability and book the package/apply the deposit (if available) before cancelling the RO. If there is no availability for an accessible room, ask to speak to someone in guest services. CRO doesn't have the ability to make the change if there's no availability, but guest services should be able to help change reservation types without you losing that room type. Good luck!

Ask them to check availability first before altering the reservation and you can also ask for guest services. You are correct that the reservation will become a package.
