Dh surprised me with a trip to Solvang. I've always wanted to go but never been. I need some types and advance for a budget trip.

1. what a nice/good inexpensive hotel to stay at in or around Solvang (dh prefers intown) ?

2. What are must sees/stops to do on the way up there?

3. How many days are needed just for Solvang?

4. Any other must sees or must dos near Solvang?

5. Favorite food place between LA to Solvang?

6. Favorite food place in Solvang?

7. Must try food in Solvang?

Trip will be Friday-Sunday. Dh and I are 41,42 DD15

-We don't drink wine so no wine tours.
-We aren't to be on the beach as in sunbathing but do like piers, shopping, getting our feet wet

I just found out about an hour ago, so I'm trying to research but I know my DIS family are great with advice and tips. Plus I trust your reviews :)

Listened to the dis plugged 6 days. I didn't realize how long the clip was lol!

I think we will add the mission Buenaventura . My daughter did her 5th grade mission project on that one.

My TR is probably getting a little dated now.....but we had an overnight stay in Solvang in January 2011.

I think there are museums and a lot of pretty places to go see near Solvang but we didn't have time. We did head to Nojoqui Falls and we took a walk around town. Mid-week....it was a very quiet town.

I understand that the motorcycle museum might be worth visiting.

Enjoy the trip.

Thank you for the link. I loved your review! DD was excited about the camarillo outlets.

I'm going to look up Lake Cachuma and see what dh and dd think.

anyone else have any input?? Thanks inadvance

BTW- DD looked up hotels and found Travel Lodge in Lompoc for $169 a night includes contential breakfast and free wii fii. Any thought on this hotel? Any other places that are inexpensive closer to solvang?

We'll talked to dh and we plan in leaving at 8am . Plan is to arrive at carmarillo by 10:00. I'm thinking 2 hours shopping or less if we just hit the stores were interested in. Head out at 12noon from outlets . Enjoy the science up the coast.

Not sure if we will stop anywhere else on friday. Not sure where we will have dinner

Not sure if you already went...
1) there are a few hotels in Solvang or Buellton, the next closest town, I've never stayed at any of them though
2)Santa Barbara pier
3)2-3
4)Nojoqui falls 1/4 mile uphill dirt hike, we were there a few weeks ago & it was only a trickle but still pretty, *********** miniature horse ranch (free), Ostrich farm, Elverhoj museum, Los Olivos
5)any restaurants in Santa Barbara
6) Solvang Restaurant
7) aebelskivers (like a pancake ball served with powdered sugar & jam)

We drove down from Napa to San Diego last Thanksgiving and went through Solvang and Santa Barbara.

The Pea Soup Anderson's in Buellton is a good stop. I love their pea soup with all the mix-ins, I think it's called the travelers special. DH is not a fan of pea soup but there's a lot of other things to eat.

Many moons ago, we went to AJ Spurs, also in Buellton. It was a really good stop for a lot of food with a cowboy-ish theme. It's still there, but that's the only time we've been so I can't say if it's held up or not. It's family style appetizers and salad that come with every meal and then you order the entree. Really good steaks!

If either of you are into beer, Firestone Walker brewery is also in Buellton.
