I am Lori, and I am a physical therapist from Texas. So, I know they why's, how's and when's of exercising, I just haven't been doing it for...about 2 years now. YIKES! Add to that fact that I was incredibly depressed for about half of those two years, and we have a weight problem! (The first step is admitting you have a problem, right?)

I am weighing in at (I know I don't have to, but here I go!) 230 pounds. That was really hard to do! At 5'11, that makes my BMI a whopping 32 (officially obese)

So my weight-loss goals are...
  • 1. Exercise 4 days a week!
Now, I have 2 gym memberships! (One for the family, one provided by my company!) Plus, an awesome thing called an underwater treadmill at my disposal. There is no reason for me not to reach goal #1!!!
  • 2. Eat better (everyone says that, I know!)
  • 3. Lose 40 pounds by October (190 pounds, which would be a BMI of 26.5, still overweight, but I don't agree with BMI anyway)
  • 4. Get down to a size 14 again
I want to look good in those Disney family photos!

Long Term Goals (It's a PT thing...)
  • 1. Continue Exercising 5 days a week!
  • 2. 170 pounds (normal BMI!) by October of 2012, our GG at WDW!)

I think WISH is going to be a great place to get motivated, to get support, and to be held accountable! (I'm trusting you to do that for me, okay?) And in return I will be honest with you, whether I'm on the wagon, off the wagon, or if I just ate the wagon...:rotfl:
Hopefully, this journal will help someone in some small way, if for nothing else than a laugh!

Monday, the alarm went off at 5:00am. I glared at it. It continued to annoy me with it's annoying piano riff. I will eventually hate the piano riff that opens "Bad to the Bone." Because glaring did nothing to stop the incessant alarm, I reached over and turned it off. And rolled over. And slept. Day 1 was off to a sad start. My goals for this week are...
  • 1. Exercise 3 days this week.
  • 2. 32 ounces of water a day.
  • 3. Limit myself to 1 soda a day and, due to Easter, one little Dove egg a day on the days I work out! (smart, huh?)
  • 4. One treat (eating out) a week!

So Day 1, I had 4 pieces of chocolate without working out...(1 Dove, 2 Hersheys and 1 Reeses mini cup). And I had 2 sodas (16 oz ea.) and 32 oz of water. And I went out to Taco Villa because work was crazy and I only had 30 minutes for lunch! Bad day! Bad Lori!

Day 2, alarm went off at 5:00am, and I...got up!!! Yea!

I worked out 30 minutes on the elliptical, and 15 minutes on this crazy little machine called an arc-trainer. (Think elliptical stair monster). I love it, because it doesn't hurt my knees, yet I get jello legs. I love the way I have felt today. 5am means more energy, not less. I have to keep telling myself this!

No chocolate yet, as DS is sick with the vomiting stuff, poor baby. He is finally napping. My DH will come home at 12 to stay with him so I can work at least half a day. So far, I've had 16 ounces of water. I need to drink more, I know! But so far, Day 2 has been much better than Day 1.

Maybe I should allow myself one cheat day, to motivate me to do well the rest of the week. OR I can resolve to try my best daily, and not to beat myself up too much about the unavoidable bumps in the road. Yeah, I think I'll take the latter!

Welcome and congrats on starting your new journal and journey! Great workout yesterday! Did you have any chocolate yesterday? You're off to a great start; I like seeing your mind work and keeping you on track. I hope DS is feeling better. Have a great day!

So Wednesday, I worked out again, pretty much the same routine. I had 1 piece of chocolate, and a 32 oz coke! But baby steps...baby steps.

Thursday, woke up late, but I decided that a short work out was better than none! 30 minutes on the elliptical then rush back home to take a quick shower and DS to school!

Friday is where it all went wrong. Or a least, not right! Out of town for CEUs, with DS and DH with the only car, meant I had hospital cafeteria food for lunch. And DH loves to go out to eat, so there was that. And way too much soda. I think the soda is my weakness...I would like to get down to maybe three times a week drinking a can? We'll see.

So week 2 begins and I step on the scale for....a whopping loss of 4 pounds. This is water weight, I know, but I expected it to be far worse after the fun but calorie expensive trip we had just taken!

AND...worked out this morning for 45 minutes on the elliptical (abbreviated, again is better than nothing!) Plus, so far I have had ONE can of soda. And I don't even miss it! Plus, I found these packets (Crystal Light) with no artificial sweetners, so I can have them! Yea! I am trying them tomorrow.

One gold thing I learned at my CEU course is that there is a website called www.walkscore.com

It gives you a score 0 - 100 for your address (or zip code). Higher scores mean there are more walking opportunities in your neighborhood. Not surprising, in West Texas, my score is a 14/100. Not good for walking. That being said, we used to go walking every night and see lots of people, kids on bikes, people walking pets, etc. So (*raspberry*) to you walk score. It still is cool in that it tells you how far various things are from you. AND on the walking note, I have decided on Tuesday and Thursdays, I will walk to the park where DS has soccer practice. The field is only about a mile from my house!

So there it is. Rebooted and ready to go!

Hi Lori!
Good for you on getting rebooted for your second week toward your goal!

I love Crystal Light packets, I use them everyday, but I think I am going to start to make them last longer by only using half in what I would normally use a whole packet for. That way I can save money, and maybe eventually ween myself off entirely and be happy be drinking "plain" water!

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Hi Lori!

I like the idea of using less and less to get used to plain water! I might have to try that...

So the rest of the week is gone! Where did the time go? I did fit in two more workouts, had only one day with more than one soda, and went out to eat twice (once was pizza for a shower at work, and the guys at work says pizza counts as fast food....darn!)

I am ready for next week, even though allergies are killing me in the mornings! I don't think I have lost any weight this week, but I'm not too worried. Monday is weigh-in. My plan is after my birthday at the end of the month, I will stop weighing every week (It's not good for you, you know!). But I will say my tops are getting bigger. Why is it the first place I lose weight is my breasts? Why not the thunder thighs, or the love handles? So unfair...

I downloaded the audio book Kingdom Keepers onto my mp3 player, and I am planning on listening to it during workouts to see if it would be okay to buy my soon to be 7 year old. Seeing as the Peter Pan ride scared him, I think it may be a little too dark! My sensitive boy...:lovestruc:flower3:

Have a good rest-of-weekend and see you real soon!

So, 6 pounds down! 4 to go by May 20! Wow, that actually sounds do-able!

I worked out 4 days last week, and just 3 this week, but I figure something's better than nothing. This week was my birthday, so between patients bringing me candy, DS insisting on Cupcakes, and various people taking me out to eat (I just can't order a salad! I could do hat at home!) I am surprised I'm doing this well. Imagine if I could reign in my "Going out to eat" habit!

So I am NOT going out to eat this week. And I am going for 4 work-outs again. I did put on my swim suit, which is sadly big on top, but still fits on bottom. I would be fine if the last 4 pounds would come from my double chin, lol. If my top gets any smaller, I will have to buy a new swim suit! And that's just not fun...not until I get to 20 pounds lost, anyway!

Good success to all the DISers changing their lifestyle for the better! And remember, dark chocolate and red wine is good for your heart!

Let's love our heart!
