Looks like a big SW Ding sale tomorrow

Just got this email from SW:

DING! is turning one tomorrow, and Southwest is throwing a party. And we all know you can't have a birthday celebration without party favors, so make sure you download DING! before tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28, and we'll cake on the savings with ridiculously low DING! fares in every Southwest market.

So far, I haven't been impressed with Ding so it will be interesting to see what is offered tomorrow. SW just doesn't give the St. Louis market the specials that it runs in other markets like Baltimore, Philidelphia and the east coast cities. Giess there is so much less competition here, that they don't have to.

If I can tag a question here for the Ding experts....I already have a ticket for STL/MCO for 5/28 to 6/5. Am really nervous about cancelling that ticket to get the credit and then booking the DING fare as others say can be done.

Question is, when you're booking a DING fare and get to the screen were you would put in your ticketless travel funds, is SW's system holding the seats you need for a certain time to finish the process? Or could you find yourself going to finish the DING ticketing and those seats/prices are no longer there?

Has anyone found themselves with no flights after trying to do this?

Thanks, Sharon

Yup, I was coming on to post the same thing. I don't need any upcoming Dings, but I hope it helps many other people. :thumbsup2

I am wondering the same thing. I am flying out of St. Louis 5/21-6/2. I bought my tickets when the fare was 94 each way. The current rate is 161 each way. Now, If I do see a Ding, how do I get it? My guess is that the easiest way is to book the DING and then cancel the other flight.

This would leave you with a big credit with southwest, but since I have other southwest travel plans for later this year, this would not be a problem for me, but for others, it could be a big deal and difficult issue. I know that you cannot go and change your travel plans through the travel center and get the DiNG rates, so I think the way that you are proposing is the most sensible.

Anyone out there with experience with this?

I hope someone has done this,

NO GUARANTEES but I just have a second browser window open. Just before I pay for my DING fare I switch over to the other window and cancel my original reservation. Generally the ticketless funds are available immediately.

If you're very nervous you can just book the DING and you'll be left with a bigger credit, not a big deal if you know you're going to be using the credit.
