Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a camera that will make all the pictures i take at Disney "Magicial".. Thanks for your help...

Need a little more info. Otherwise you might get a suggestion to buy a Nikon D2Xs mounted with an 18-200mm VR lens. This will take outstanding pictures (in the right hands) but will cost you about $5000+.

So, in order to avoid that it would help to start with what your budge its (most important). Then do you prefer a small camera or a big camera and what kind of zoom range (ie: short 3x or 4x, or longer like 10x or 12x). Other than Disney how often do you take pictures and of what (events, children's activities {school and sports}, family gatherings, etc...)

Like Dr. Evil says "hello,,,, throw me a bone,,, Need the INFOOOO"

To answer the last one the budget is not a problem.. 200-400 i would think.. As far as the size the stylus 300 is small enough to fit in your pocket so tha would be something to look at.. And the most use for it would be on trips, family events or concerts and what not.. Thanks for all the help so far i will check out that link... One thing that I am looking for is a camera that will take better pictures in dark areas.. THe stylus 300 was great for family shots but when light became a issue the pictures did not turn out as well ....

i also have the same camera and am looking to upgrade... i had the same problem with the pictures in dark areas! made it hard to get some good pics!

I think that most any camera in the $200-400 range will have trouble with night photos. Night photos are difficult - the key is more using a tripod and/or having a "fast" lens, which is only an option with a DSLR.

Having a camera that can do a higher ISO level with low image noise levels can help a lot, though. For this, you want a Point-n-Shoot with a larger sensor - 1/1.8" is the usual "big" PnS sensor. Don't worry about megapixels, they generally work against you when it comes to noise and most every current camera has more than enough.

Even if you want to use a flash, again, most PnSs don't do well here as they have a small flash with not much reach.

A pocket camera is more likely to have a tiny sensor and weak flash, so will often be worse than a larger PnS. This is only a generality, though, there are exceptions.

In other words... no matter what you don't, don't expect to suddenly be able to take terrific night photos. The best solution is to use a tripod, learn your camera's settings and how best to make them work for you, and take lots of pictures - you'll probably have some throwaways but hopefully you'll get some winners in there, too.

Great responses so far. I'll add that you "always" get what you pay for! Your decision depends more on your shooting style and what you want to do with the photos. Most folks just want a picture to remember a travel location, or a personal event. This is fine as long you know that you will have limitations with that kind of a camera.

Quite a few of the PnS cameras offer a wide range of features that will work great for the majority of the shots you might want to take.

A camera with a higher OPTICAL zoom is better. Don't use the digital zoom.

A camera that offers a manual, aperture priority and shutter priority features is VERY helpful, and gives you more shooting options if your needs change in the future.

A camera that has a self-timer is always a help for those low light shots, or self portraits since the PnS don't have remote shutter options.

I don't know if I'd agree with that 100%... it's very easy to spend more for a camera that's worse than a cheaper one!

There's just no substitute for research.

have to agree with groucho here...a friend spent almost as much for his p&s as i spent for my rebel xt .....and in his photos all the people look like green or silver aliens:confused3 : ..humerous but i would hate to have spent that much on a lousy camera( i am thinking it might be white balance issues but none the less, evidently it doesn't bother him or he can't fix it)

so i went and upgraded... i got the Olympus stylus 710.... so far so good!!! i realy like it... but we will see how it holds up at disney world!!!
