I was married in 2003 in a courthouse. I didn't even have a honeymoon. I'd love to have a wedding at Disney World. So, I need to figure out how much everything will cost. It will probably be 20 people. And we would be paying for our guests lodging. I need to know the best places to buy a wedding dress, tuxedos, bridesmaid dress, etc. Also, do these packages include food and such? I also requested the dvd. Any information you can give me would be much appreciated!

Are you looking for info on a vow renewal or a wedding?

Well, you can ask now, but the prices will most likely go up by 2009! :flower:

Basically, to Disney, the only real difference between a "real wedding" and a "vow renewal" is the license issue. Everything else is really the same.

Our Disney wedding was "technically" a vow renewal...four days after our courthouse wedding at home. It was just easier for us to do the legal stuff here at home rather than doing it in Florida.

Your guest number may put you "over the limit" for an intimate wedding. Right now, I think the intimate only allows for 20 people (including you and your groom)...but who knows that could change.

In 2006, the intimate wedding costs about $2500 ($3500 if you select the Wedding Pavilion as your ceremony location). That price includes flowers, cake, violinist, and basic photography, and a few other things. It does NOT include hotel accommodations, meals, officiant fees, or park tickets.

The minimum cost for a custom wedding (which is "required" if your guest count exceeds the maximum for an intimate) is $10,000 for a Monday-Thursday wedding, and the price goes up from there.

Take a look at www.disneyweddings.com for all the basic info!!! You can price everything out, and figure a 5-10% increase in the price over the next couple of years. Keep checking the site to see how the packages change and you can kind of make a plan. You can't book anything until a year before, but you can dream!!! :sunny:

Congratulations and good luck!!

Hello!

We did the same thing. We were legally married in August 2004 at a courthouse. The military pushed us into it much faster than we expected. We had a wedding on December 29 of last year.

Although "technically" our "wedding" was a vow renewal, it was treated by Disney as though it was a wedding. One of the first things I would do is take a look at the Disney Wedding website (www.disneyweddings.com) and at the differences of the vow renewals and weddings. We went to Disney telling them we wanted a wedding and not a vow renewal.

With 20 people, you could fall into the intimate category in a few year's time. However, I believe at this time some of the girls have been able to pay a fee to have a few extra guests at their intimate weddings. I would also look at the differences of the intimate weddings vs. the custom weddings. I was a custom bride and am only familiar with that side of the house. From my understanding, the intimate weddings are almost "packages" that you can or subtract a la carte aspects to in order to get your dream wedding. I am sure one of the intimate girls here will be better able to explain them than I can.

Another option are the Swan and Dolphin weddings. I have only heard good things about them on these boards. Many of the people here use JustMarry.com. A Sawn/Dolphin wedding gives you the convenience and magic of a Disney wedding without the expense of a Fairy Tale Wedding (throuhg Disney). More or less, it's a wedding on Disney property.

I am afraid hiwaygirl might have confused you on an issue here:

You can have a custom wedding for exactly $10,000. Prices do not start at $10,000 and then increase. The $10,000 minimum expenditure (and any expenditure for a custom wedding) means that in total, the price tag of your wedding must equal or exceed $10,000. Things that all count towards your minimum include but are not limited to: rental fee for the location of your choice, floral, meals, cake, decorations, characters, photography, videography, etc. on the day of the wedding. Just wanted to clarify.

You will need to provide Disney a copy of your original marriage license for either evet. Good luck!

I think you're right...my statement may have been confusing. I should have said that for a Monday -Thursday wedding, the minimum cost is $10,000. For a Friday or Sunday wedding, I believe the minimum cost goes up to $15,000, and for a Saturday wedding I think it's $20,000...but that may be old information.

Thank you for clarifying that! :)

ETA: For the intimates, you can add stuff, but you can't really take anything away. You can decide NOT to use the photography or transportation (for example) but you will not get a "credit" for that cost.

I was playing around at the disneyweddings website last night. I wanted to choose a Saturday but really if its 10,000 extra just for that day then I guess I should just go with the mon-thurs thing. I was also interested in Magic Kingdom pictures and it didn't give me a price. How much does it usually go for? Where did you buy your dress? Did you just book a restaurant for dinner or can I have it catered or something? We will also be paying for everyone's lodging and transportation costs :earseek: Where did you have your guests stay? I'm a dvc member and will most likely use some of my points for the guests. The 20 people would include my dh and I. I definitely want the cinderella coach! :goodvibes
How are you required to pay for the wedding? I'm assuming they'll take payments? Can anyone share pictures of their weddings? I think it could give me an idea of how I would like my own. Depending on how much the overall cost will be, I might be able to have the wedding sooner than I think.

Hello again-

I was the same way when we were initially planning- I wanted the traditional Saturday wedding. We would have met the requirements either way. But, we changed becuase MIL will be retiring in the spring. We thought it an unecessary burden to have the wedding right at that point. They're both teachers, so we were a little bit limited on the dates and times of year we could seriously look into. We chose December 29, 2005. We met at Disney December 29, 2000. You can probably do the math and figure it out  It was a Thursday and we had no questions from anyone that was a part or invited to the wedding. You will always have naysayers and party poopers on the outside who will try to cast judgement. Don't let them rain on your parade. Ever. :umbrella:

Currently, the MK photo shoot is $800 plus the cost of having your hair and make-up done (if you choose), the tuxedo rental for him, and your bouquet (if it will need to be redone). There are fees associated with paying for your photos, as well. If you do not need this to meet your minimum expenditure, you can have it done up to one year later. We have gone this route as neither of us wanted to be getting up for a photo shoot after 2-3 hours of sleep. If you need it to meet the minimum expenditure (for a custom), then it must be done the day of the wedding or the morning after. Again, I am unfamiliar with the rules in the intimate weddings department.

I ourhcased my dress at David's Bridal. You can begin looking at the websites for the designers, etc., now. I wouldn't get anything just yet as designs and styles change. I had a girlfriend but her dress when I did. Only problem is that her wedding was 18 months away when she bought it. Of course now, she doesn't want to wear that one. I tried to warn her...

For an intimate, you will need to have one of the girls answer the question concerning the dinner. I know Disney has gotten much stricter about this. I woul dnot plan on having a catered meal at Disney if you're planning an intimate. In all likelihood, they will cancel it. It is as though you're trying to get the perks of having a custom wedding, but paying the initmate price. I believe one of the girls had her event cancelled by Disney catering when they learned it was in conjunction with a wedding. You will need to speak directly with you Event Manager when the time comes. Until then, I leave it to the intimate brides to explain this one. Custom brides usually plan a whole, traditional reception.

Traditionally, airfare and hotel accomodations do not fall within the responsibilities of the bride and groom, but rather the guests. If you are booking rooms and paying for everyone, I would take the cheapest thing available. On property, obviously one of the All-Stars or the Pop. Maybe you can find a better deal off-property. Or, Coronado Springs might offer a good group rate becuase they have the conventions. Is this something that you absolutely have to do? Or is it a kind gesture? If it is a kind gesture, select those individuals that will be unable to attend unless you pay their way. I wouldn't make it general knowledge either. We paid for a lot of the things for my BMs (3 of 4 wee family) and my grandparents.

Something to consider: For custom brides (and I have every reason to believe for intimate brides, as well), you can block rooms and receive a discounted rate on the rooms for your group through the Fairy Tale Wedding Department. If you carefully choose one of the "value" or "regular" priced seasons, the prices on the room could be considerably discounted from the regular rack rates. As a DVC member, you may be able to use your points for a number of family and friends to stay. I believe Janet2K did this for her vow renewal.

Disney may or may not accept payments. Your best bet is probably a high yield savings account. You will have a $1,000 deposit made to reserve your space and time. This is sent when you return your signed contract. After that, payment for your event is due one month before your wedding. The $1,000 deposit is not counted towards the final payment in any way. It is returnable, but only after the event. It is held in case there is damage to anything you rented, you no-show, chage your mind, etc.

As far as having it sooner- check into the prices for off-site vendore for photography, videogrpahy, floral, etc. I was exceedingly hapy with Disney's Photogrpahic services... after I unsuccessfully tried to back out of my contract with less than 30 days. Many of the girls here use Randy Chapman. His rates are very reasonable and his work is excellent. Videogrpahy favorite is STVS. I am unsure on prices. Floral- again, I used Disney and was thrilled. I was using flowers from Whimsical Wey as my inspiration. I found out they were Orlando-based a little too late! There are a lot of florists around. Check them out.

Do not forget to budget for allt he add-ons. They add up quick and can ruin you if you don't remember to allot for them. They include hair and make-up, nails, hair coloring before the wedding if applicable, massages, tanning, tuxedo rentals, alteration costs for your dress, steaming for your dress the day of the wedding (Carolyn Allen's boutique), floral preservation (allot a lot if you look into doing this), any costs you might be covering for your BMs, gifts for parents/attendants/each other, rehearsal dinner costs, officiant fees, tips for vendors, food and souvenir money for your visit, accessories for your wedding day attire, any DIY projects for the wedding, money to purchase photos after the wedding, etc. They just seem to keep adding up!

Jill,

You had a beautiful wedding! I liked your bridal tea! The cake was cute. Where did you get your wedding cake from?

All of our cakes were from the GF bakery. The tea was a huge surprise from my MIL. She said, "Can't have a wedding without a bridal shower." She took matters into her own hands.... :rotfl:

I am an intimate bride and as far as the dining your EM can help you book it. I was told that with 20 people ( including me and DH2B) that we either needed to take the first seating which is 5-5:30 p.m. or the last seating which is 9-9:30 p.m.

I too am getting my dress at Davids Bridal and renting the tuxes from Afterhours formal wear. As far as my bridesmaids dresses we are looking at Dillards or Folleys or JC Penneys since I don't want them to have to pay a lot for a dress that they are probably going to wear once.

As far as payments I have to pay a deposit of $500 which will go towards the final bill from DFTW and the rest is due I think 1 month before the wedding.
