So we will be traveling to Orange County the beginning of August, and I am trying to find the restaurants people feel are worth making reservations for.

Family of four that doesn't like buffet. Also not looking at spending over 50 per plate.

Any recommendations?

wow. Tough question due to enormity of the range and number of restaurants in the OC! If you want an iconic, cool experience, check out The Beachcomber. A small, famous little space right on the sand of Crystal Cove state beach in Newport. You do need reservations.

I dunno - "best" is kind of a loaded word, if you're budgeted at $50 per person you're not likely to get it. It depends on your expectations, and whether or not you're reasonable with your expectations.

If you're thinking of good value or very good quality at a moderate price, then there are good places all over Orange County. One place that my wife researched for our trip was Tommy's Sushi in Tustin. It's a good value and the owners are Japanese. It's in a nondescript strip mall, which is probably why it's a good value.
