Looking for Washington, DC tips - quick trip

I've never been to Washington, DC and was invited to go next week for a lobbying fly-in. I've got a very short window to hit some of the major sites, so I'm looing for insider tips.

I'll arrive early in the afternoon on the first day and have all the rest of the day to tour around. The second day I'm in meetings all day, but have the evening free. The final day I'm may have a couple of hours in the afternoon before I catch my evening flight.

So, anyone who lives in the area or who's a seasoned traveler, please tell me the must-do's and how to do them quickly.
