from what I have seen the birth certif is needed for lap babies only saw parents asked for one for small baby well under a year old. did not see outcome as they were still trying to find a way because they did not bring. your 3 year old is not a lap baby so no birth cretif needed

I've flown with my 3yo son many times and have never once been asked for his birth certificate. I do carry a copy just in case but it's not standard for them to ask for it.

I've flown with him multiple times since he was an infant, most of the trips he was under two and a lap baby. I've never been asked for his birth certificate but I've always brought a copy just in case.
I was thinking the same thing! I hope he enjoys the rides. I would feel awful if we were on one and he started crying because he was scaredThere are very few LONG rides at Disney. So I'd start him with something short and sweet. For example, if he hates Peter Pan, don't even bother trying the Haunted Mansion! Most kids LOVE Peter Pan - it just goes to show that each individual kid will react in their own individual way!
Flying--
get the baby his own seat for the carseat or do lap sitting?
I know it costs more but it was so nice not having my car seat aged kids on my lap. They each rode a plane once strapped into their car seat. Plus our first trip with a LO, it was a 3 person row so it was dh, myself and our dd. I would of hated to have a stranger in our row.
Adding to this, if your 13 month old sat in your lap, there isn't a bunch of room between the seats so basically your child is at risk for constantly bumping the seat back in front of you. Now a bump here and there isn't a biggie but 1 yo's like to do their own thing and that doesn't involve sitting still. I also took my kids shoes off on the plane as a just in case my kid kicked. I thought it would be less of a punch to that person in front of me.
what should I bring to entertain the little guy?
Nothing that has small pieces! I had gummy candy for my kids and lollipops galore. It kept them quiet! I ripped one gummy bear or the baby gummy fruit snacks into about 5-6 pieces so it would last longer.
I also used color wonder markers...not the paint since that is pretty greasy. We have used DVD players, lap top, iPad and jet Blues wonderful TV. I have also used the little books that make pictures when you color with water/a water pen.
We have done ispy with ispy books.
I didn't bring any messy/smearing snacks either but I also bring baby wipes and Lysol wipes and wipe everything down.
Stroller--
take our own or rent?
I brought my own-I know it, I know it's clean and my kid knows it. I knows what can fit in it and what can't. Plus if your child insists on walking thru the airport you can pile all your crayons and car seat in it.
Resort--
suggestions on what resort to stay at?
It depends on what you want and where you are going as well as $$$$.
I prefer the Poly because we like MK and Epcot and go to both of those parks the most. But it's expensive and I justify it because we go about every 5 yrs now. If you are planning on spending most of your time at the MK then pick something closer to there because of naps/mid day breaks, the same for the other parks.

What rides can he go on?
My kids that age went on everything that they could go on. I made the dark rides fun by saying look at that, etc... I said before I brought my first that dh and I would do the baby swap for space mountain but once we got there, I skipped it because I hd been on it many times before and I knew if go on it again and I did since then.
Can we do any shows? Particularly wondering about Fantasmic! and if it'll be too scary for him.
Yes. I am not a fantastic fan so we skip it. But my kids have no choice but to watch illuminations on 3-4 of our 5 park nights and the fireworks at MK on the other 1-2. I will cover their ears or tell them to cover.
I will add I am thankful I went back to our room for mid day breaks/naps because my kids might of been scared of them old noise (loved looking at them) but they were not having a melt down like other kids at 10 pm.
Restaurants--
Is 13 mo. too young for character meals?
We only really do chef mickeys on arrival/non park day. We also did the crystal palace. The rest were CS meals as I don't do the dining plan. I did bring a cooler with an ice pack (back then the fridges had a little freezer section or it just froze my ice pack) and zip lock bags for left overs since my kids were not big eaters and I could get 2 meals for them with one kids meal.
I will say my oldest was 15 months old and loved the characters but was petrified of the face characters and wouldn't go near them alone. My 2nd child loved them all but hiss legs were glued around me in all the pictures with the characters. He was 22 months. My youngest was 2 1/2 and loved them all...basically followed her siblings. So a character meal could be a hit or miss.
Babysitting--
Has anyone used the babysitting service through Disney? I am just so petrified of letting a stranger watch my little one, but I have read some posts on here where parents were happy with the service. So any personal experience with the services would be great to hear.
Nope never did. I figured I am there on vacation with my family and I want to spends so much time withe hem as possible.
And any other suggestions on anything else are definitely welcome!
I am a big believer of a mid day break. We go in the summer so we get up and are out the door between 7-7:15 ish to get to the early entry park of the day. We either grab lunch in the park or at the hotel. And then we all nap. The last time we went, my oldest was 12 and yep she napped...thank goodness! We stay put til 10-11 pretty much every park night.
I also plan non park days too. Them lst time we went we had 5 park days and 5 non park days (2 were travel days). We..um..me just hung out at the pool from 8am-10pm...my kids and dh slowly came out as they woke up.
We also ship down breakfast foods and snacks and I really just buy milk. I haven paper bowls, plastic spoons, paper cups, etc... My kids eat while dh and I ar showering and we don't waste time in the am getting breakfast.
About a month before we left, I counted diapers per day used. This way I knew about how many I used and then I added 2 days. I put my wipes in a zip lock bag.
My son sat in his stroller walking around epcot playing with ice. He ate it, it dropped (he got more) licked it, smeared it on him. I just put it on his strollers tray.
Have fun seeing it thru the eyes of a child.
Edited to add-I brought a few blanket/little blankets to use on the changing tables. I loved the baby care centers and we used them as often as we could. And I did laundry daily or every other day this way we didnt have to bring as much clothing.
Thank you for sharing your experience! We enjoy eating at other resorts so that is a big reason we would like to have a car. It is just too time consuming taking the buses frome one resort to anotherWe are going to Disney in December with our then one year old. Keep in mind that you will have to wait in lines for the tram in the parking lot, and waiting in traffic to get out of the parking lot will also be a factor. We just flew with our one month old and had her as a lap infant. It was very easy to hold her and not have to hassle with the car seat, but she is one month instead of one year. We are planning to have her as a lap infant in December at one year also. We will not be renting a car, so we will not need her car seat down there. Honestly, if (heaven forbid) the plane should crash, the likelihood of her car seat being effective is slim to none, so I can't justify buying her a seat.
We plan to take her stroller and Ergo. We had her stroller and Ergo when we flew 2 weeks ago, and the stroller made things so much easier getting through the airport. I had her in the Ergo mostly, but it was nice putting her bag in the stroller, and we had it if we needed it. It was also nice to have somewhere to put her carseat instead of having to carry it. We gate checked her car seat bc we needed it when we go to our destination.
We too are heading to the world in Aug, our daughter will also be 13 months. We have been several times before with babies (my nephews and our older son) so know what to expect.
I would purchase a seat, we are, at that age they are so squirmy and it is nice to have the extra space. We just went to Aulani in Oct when she was 3 months old as a lap baby and even though she was an angel my husband and I both said never again. We have a Britax marathon with the travel cart and it works like a charm. You can strap them in roll right onto the plane.
We are taking an umbrella stroller, I just ordered a new Maclaren for our trip. We had one for our son and have also rented and we like having our own. We found it nice to have when we were off property.
As far as where to stay and what to do it will depend, each one of our trips were different depending on the kids and what age / stage they were at.
We love Kids Nite Out and would recommend them in a heartbeat. We even had the same nanny by request 2 years in a row. We always try to do an adults night, nice dinner and the MK without kids. Our boys still remember Jean and my son even asked if they could get a sitter when we go in Aug.
Whatever you decide you are going to have an amazing trip. Watching them take it all in is magic.
I've flown with my 3yo son many times and have never once been asked for his birth certificate. I do carry a copy just in case but it's not standard for them to ask for it.
Personally, at 13 months, I would not get a plane seat unless I needed the car seat upon arrival. It would just be one more thing to drag along. Also, you will most likely be getting the kiddo out of the seat for stretch breaks anyway, so IMO, I'd save the money and hassle and pass baby back and forth between DH and me. I would definitely have some special things for the ride. Some Disney Junior videos might be in order to get him excited and a bit familiar with the characters (as familiar as a 13mo can get anyway!). I know not everyone likes their babies, or even older kids, to watch videos, but I don't mind on a plane. It is so special, it usually keeps my kiddos calm. We never had trouble flying with ODS, both as a lap kid and in his own seat. I very rarely have seen kiddos struggle on a plane. Do have something ready for popping ears though. Ear plugs can help but mostly something to sip or suck on.
We have opted to take our stroller rather than rent. I have a City Micro, so it seems silly to rent one there. I'll likely be wearing baby, so we can use it to tote carry ons through the airport, give my back a rest from the carrier, etc. Since you can gate check it, it doesn't cost anything extra to bring it. I know I just said not to drag a car seat, but I see a stroller differently. It's like a luggage cart! I did get a bag for it, but I don't know if I'll use it. I saw the JR Childress (?) red gate check one on clearance at Target for $5 and thought why not. All the Targets around here had them clearanced, so perhaps all Targets and Target online does as well. I just got it on Friday I think.
We haven't been with the baby, but we are currently booked in a single at CBR. We went back and forth a lot over a moderate single or a value suite, and ultimately decided to save the money. We may live to regret this though. It's hard to say how he'll be sleeping then, but our recent trip in a suite was rough. We put both kids to sleep in one room...or tried anyway. The baby couldn't settle, so I ended up sleeping in one room with him and DH and ODS in the other. My room was the pull out couch...yay. Now, where you only have the baby, it won't be the same. We just have an older child to get to sleep as well. With our older son, a single was never a problem. We'd simply step onto a balcony or outside the room until he fell sleep. Sometimes, you can even fit a pnp in a closet (or bathroom if you can work around that for the night).
Since we haven't been with the baby to Disney, I can't give an experience on the rest...just was able to give what our experience has been traveling elsewhere. We are not doing any character meals this time. We want to let ODS experience the parks. We'll be back, so we will do meals next time if he is interested. We are keeping this trip relatively simple. I will book FP, and we will do rope drop for the SWW show one morning, but we are otherwise going to be flexible. I don't want to rush in the mornings. I want to eat as we need breaks, go back to the room for a rest if needed, etc. I plan on fireworks once or twice, but that may be ODS and I alone, and DH will put YDS to bed.
You know your baby best. It is a special circumstance, a vacation, but do what works for your family. If you are normally early risers, go for it. If baby can manage cat naps and a later night, super. If you need a midday break, take it. Start with a relatively "normal" day and go from there. See how much you can deviate, but don't force it too far. The most important part is that your whole family enjoy the trip! Happy baby usually equals happy parents lol.
Thank you for all of your suggestions! I'm definitely looking for suggestions on what stroller to get for The World so I will have to look into the City Micro you mentioned. I'm sorry for the difficulty you had with your baby sleepingDS has been sleeping through the night since he was 8 weeks old with a few exceptions here and there, but so far we have been blessed with his sleeping habits. Of course that could all change by October but fingers crossed it doesn't. DS is a morning person (the happiest baby ever, so weird! bc his mommy and daddy are def not morning people lol!) so I don't think we'll have any issues getting him up for rope drop. I don't want to upset his schedule for one week so we will try to keep him on it while we are on vacation. I absolutely agree with your comment on the most important part. All I want is for us all to enjoy our vacation. If that means we are only at each park for a few hours then so be it!

That's a great idea! I never would have thought to bring his doctor papers along. I'd rather ha e too much info than not enough.Forgot to say, Southwest does request a "proof of age" document. We just took a copy of her shots page from the pediatrician because we hadn't gotten her birth certificate when we flew. Although, apparently a lot of people come with out it because the desk attendant seemed prepared for a fight when she asked for it, but was very happy when we provided multiple documents.
