I noticed this morning while waiting for the bus that my DD6 has some bumps on her forehead. I pretty sure it's b/c she's not washing her face correctly at night. She's using her lil brothers baby wash. She's very insistent that she's old enough to bath by herself. (I help her with her hair.)

I told her that I would start washing her face myself every night. My question is, what is the best soap for her? She's only 6, so i don't want anything too strong, but I don't want her to start breaking out this young.

Help!!! :goodvibes

My kids just use the babywash no tear stuff in the shower for their face and body. If not taking a shower, they will use a baby wipe or just a warm wet washcloth with no soap. :goodvibes

When my kids were that age they used the bar soap that was in the tub- shower which was/is Safeguard or Dial.

Does she wear any hair styling product on her hair? That can cause bumps too. Perhaps you can "help" her with the face washing without taking over completely. Get her her own "special" soap, like Dove. It's very gentle and smells feminine. Have her wash her face at the bathroom sink. Soap up a washcloth with Dove soap and show her how to make a sudsy face. Make it fun for her. Then have her rinse off and pat dry. You don't need to scrub hard--that might actually irritate her skin more. A washcloth makes a good, gently exfoliator. If the bumps are really bothersome or if it's getting worse, take her to a dermatologist. It may or may not be simple acne.

Thanks for the quick replies. Yeah, I didn't think she needed anything more than the baby soap.

minkydog, no she doesn't use anything in her hair, it's strait as nails so usually its pulled up in a ponytail and out of her face. I think I will pick up some Dove soap and try that with her.

Thanks, again.

I actually don't use soap on my kids faces. my mom was the same with me growing up.

If she's breaking out she may have developed sensitive skin. Try Purpose soap. It comes in a bar and a pump. We prefer the pump, less mess. It's wonderful for sensitive skin.

Try not using any soap on her face - most faces are sensitive and probably more so at that age. She really doesn't need anything more than a wet washclothe to wipe her face off.

If she is bathing herself she maybe leaving soap on her face and drying it out - causing the bumps.

I don't use soap on my face or my kid's faces. Only on Halloween to get off makeup. Water works just fine.

I wouldn't use the Dove. It really hurts if it gets in your eyes. I go for Cetaphil or Purpose b/c they're both gentle.

Thanks for all of the great ideas.

KAMKIM - yeah, that is what I was thinking, she's not rinsing good enough.

I just never thought about not using soap b/c she gets dirty during the day. If it doesn't clear up I'll have her just use water.

Thanks again!!

At 6 I would e very surprised if she is breaking out. Heck, if she never washed her face at all, it would still be a stretch. To me (and I am by no menas an expert or a doctor) it sounds like she is allergic to something.

I started my girls on Cetaphil. They have sensitive skin and this is gentle and fragrance free. I also bought microfiber mitts for them to use, it makes it easier for them to wash their face, instead of using a washcloth. I buy Cetaphil at costco - comes in a 2pk and has pumps. One is by the sink and one is in their shower.

If it doesn't clear up soon, a trip to the dermatolgist may be in order.
