bajanswife I'm interested in a winter vacation during Christmas holidays one year as well - are all of these suggestions pretty much guaranteed to have snow at some point during December/early January? It's a long way for us to go to find no snow!
I've lived in Utah my whole life, grew up skiing every winter until I messed up my ankle and can't do it anymore and there has NEVER been a winter where we couldn't ski even in the drought years as of late! We had GREAT snow last winter which helped break some of the drought we'd had for 6 years before that but I can tell you that as soon as it gets cold enough which is generally right after Thanksgiving they start making snow and depending on how mother nature is sometimes they have to make it constantly for weeks and sometimes it's only for a short period of time.
And we already received our first dusting of snow at Snowbird Ski Resort just a week ago.
Bajan you want to switch houses for a week?? You can come here and ski and I'll go there and keep warm I'm jealous! Do you like living in Barbados?? We want to move somewhere Caribbean when our kids get older.

It's hard to answer the question "do you like living in Barbados?", because I don't really have anything to compare it to (college years and vacations overseas don't count ). I don't hate it, that's for sure - there are advantages to it, one of the greatest being that all my family is here. It's home - I was born and raised here, so I have a fondness and tolerance for it that others who move here might not have. Like anywhere in the world, it has its issues - it's a matter of preference what's important to you and whether you can deal with our particular shortcomings (such as the slower pace of life, the more limited selection of stuff, the higher prices, the not so great roads etc.). The GOOD things about this island might charm you so much that the other stuff is unimportant!
Thanks for the suggestions. I've been out of town for a few days, but I intend to research all of the suggestions. Someone I know mentioned that there was a ski resort about an hour north of Las Vegas? Does anyone know if there would be snow in November or December? That would be a great place for us to go since there are several day trips from Las Vegas that we would enjoy and my husband culd enjoy a bit of gambling once Emily and I turn in for the night.
