Decided this week that I had to come down for the leap year event, so I was wondering if ant of you photo experts out there had any ideas for unique special shots to go for? :confused3

I plan on focusing early on sunrise shots - but don't really have any great ideas as to how to do it (maybe the treehouse). I know this should be easy to think about, just can't get any good locations in my head.

In terms of after hours, other than pictures under the main st. clock and of (hopefully) empty walkways, can't think of anything special here either.

If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it! :thumbsup2

Empty walkways? It's going to be a crowded zoo. Which walkways were you hoping would be empty?

I'd check out the Disney Photography Blog, they've had several articles recently on preparing for the day (sunrises, crowds, etc.) and also episode 6 of their podcast ISO 5571 which featured a discussion on the same topic. So jealous of those of you getting to go, hopefully seeing all of the photos from the day will be enough for us!

you really think it will be crowdwd at 3am for example? Maybe i am wrong but given the general lack of excitement on these boards i dont think it going to be all that bad overnight

Sunrise is at 6:49am. The park is open from 6:00am to 6:00am, so there's only one opportunity for the sunrise shot at the opening. I expect plenty of people there at rope drop, and plenty of photographers.

There have been times when I've been leaving the park at midnight and people were still arriving by the busload to keep going in the wee hours.

Basically, I have faith that there will ALWAYS be someone in the park to get in the way of my shot.

Thanks for the shout-out on the podcast.

We should have two opportunities to shoot the sunrise at Disneyland, given that it occurs at 6:19 am on March 1. I can't imagine the park being cleared that quickly, especially with restaurants being open until 6 am there.

I usually go down with a little mini flat notebook of " keywords" for photos to challenge myself. Last time, I think I had reflection, repetition, feet come to mind on the list. Amazing what you'll end up noticing this way!
As to sunrise... you'll only have a short window of time to be in a good spot , so you'll have to think of crowd and what will be in the way, as well as tell you where you are shooting from.
How about the entry way thru the Castle... just far enough in to get the idea? Or just the top of Main St. I am trying to think where the sun comes up over the kingdom!
HOpe you post your shots!

I have to agree, it is going to be packed. Locals alone could pack the place on an occasion like this.

As for the treehouse, that might be a decent place, but it might need to be pretty wide to get landmarks and the sun. For example, the castle is north of the treehouse and at this time of the year the sun is a little south of due east, so it is not going to be perfect. Then you have the fact that you are probably not the only person that thought of this and given that it is an attraction the only chance is the opening, not the closing. (Can you run fast?)

I wondered abiut how the locals would impacts the crowds too, but if disney really thought it would be a zoo crowd wise why so few food choices (compared to DL for example)

BTW i ama mizzou tiger so cant wait tosee rupp next year!

It's going to be a crowded zoo.
I'm honestly not convinced either way. It's a slow season when the Magic Kingdom would typically probably close at 8pm, it's the middle of the week, plenty of people know how advantageous it would be to get to the parks early and yet they just won't do it, and this was announced with a fairly short window of time to book a trip. On the other hand, I expect a stronger than average photographer presence regardless -- if the weather holds. Expect some local media to be present as well.

So, on second thought, I'd encourage everyone to avoid Magic Kingdom like the plague the entire day. There will be millions of people there, Mickey will be ornery and act like a jerk on wheels, and I hear that every 29 seconds, a random guest will get a poke in the eye!

;)

Welcome to The SEC!!! The best conference ever!!! Rupp is like no other arena in college basketball. Tradition oozes out of the walls.

Now you're getting it.

I went with a few of my friends this morning. Fog. Wonderful, glorious fog socked in Central Florida. There was no visible sun until close to 10:00am. By that time, it wasn't One More Disney Day. It was just One More Day at Disney.

On the bright side, I think I have some nice, moody shots of the Castle. On the other hand, there was no sunrise shot. Plenty of photographers grumbling out in MK this morning.
