Looking for non-Disney vacation ideas

a nondisney vacation???? hhmmm...sorry, i dont have any idea. maybe paris to go to disneyland paris. oops, sorry. how about tokyo, wait there is a disney land there too. nope. no ideas.

no beach... i say DC or NY. i was going to suggest DCL, but if you don't like the beach, then to see the ocean and when you dock off the Castaway Cay, it will remind you of the beach.

how about the Grand Canyon? definitely no beach there!

KimR -

I noticed you are from Atlanta - we are in Central GA and last summer wanted to take a trip just as you are talking about. We didn't want to do Disney (mainly because we are afraid of the summer heat and crowds) but we didn't want to fly anywhere, either. And we didn't want to do the beach because we were doing that later in the summer.

Sadly enough, we found all roads leading back to Orlando when I searched Trip Advisor for vacation spots and read about the Grande Lakes Orlando resort. It was wonderful!! Google it and look at the property - the pools are great and the kids LOVED it. There are still so many things to do in Orlando besides Disney and you can have a great relaxing, yet go go go vacation. And this is their "cheap" season. (Especially compared to Disney).

We are going back this year (next week) and are not doing Disney, but dining at California Grill and seeing the Hoop De Doo as part of our activities. Check it out!

Hope you find something!!

Thanks for the ideas! For those who suggested a cruise I have a question: I've always considered a cruise vacation to be similar to a beach vacation...mostly swimming, sunning, snorkeling, watersports etc. I've researched cruises a little and it seems that even most of the excursions are watersports or beach-related. I really don't care for that kind of thing so I've never really considered a cruise other than possibly a short 3-day trip for the kids. Is there anything to do on a cruise that isn't water/beach/sun related? If I don't like the beach, do I have a chance at all of enjoying a cruise?
I'm not a beach person either except for the occasional stroll which I love. I wouldn't hesitate to take a cruise though. The best part to me would be the island stops and getting off to sightsee.

Also, don't rule out places like San Diego because they have beaches. That's just a teeny part of the overall package.

First thing that came to mind for me is a european cruise. Might be out of your price range though.
