OK, everyone put there "thinking Mouse Ears" on and give me some ideas on a home countdown calender for our visit to the World next Spring. Last year I swiped a bunch of Mickey paint swatches from Home Depot and in each of the 12 heads (for 12 months of waiting) I wrote different quotes or snipets of Disney Songs. Simple and cheesy but the kids got a kick out of it. Anybody out there do anything like that? Keep in mind we are not going until next April....Oh what a long wait it will be!!

We do a "Countdown to Disney" Calendar each year, in fact, it's up right now (on day 90 I think).

Anyway, you purchase a LARGE poster board for about $3 and get markers together, etc. You then take the calendars that you will go through (in your case May 2005, June 2005, ..., April 2006) and then instead of writing the dates, you write the days left. Each day you mark off a day and then finally its done. I can't believe how fast the week went by (seemed like a day), just by looking forward to mark a day off of the calendar.

Make sure to decorate the calendar with glitter, stickers, etc. and have it especially nice on landmark days (for example: 100 days left, 50 days left, 10 days left, etc.)

How about making a paper chain and each link is a day. The kids can tear a link off each night. Since you are not going until next year, you could tack it up around the ceiling of their room. We do this at school and the kids love to watch it get shorter and shorter until we reach the last day.

Just today I made a poster countdown! I gathered up a bunch of Disney Stickers and my scrapbooking supplies and went to town! :) For the actual countdown portion, I've got a spot for a post-it-note, I'll just write the new number of days remaining on a new post-it every morning, DS then gets to pull the old one down and put the new one up. :) We took down our wedding portrait (temporary ;)) so it could hang in a place of honor! :rotfl:

I made this countdown calander for DD. It starts 30 days out and every morning she runs downstairs to pull off a Mickey Head. We use it for every trip.

We have done the paper chain one and also an M&M countdown. I gave each kid a plastic sandwich bag and filled them with M&Ms,enough for 1 for each day until our trip(we did this after getting many M&Ms for Halloween, LOL). Each night after dinner they could eat 1 M&M, until the trip.

I used the calendar feature in powerpoint and inserted different pics on each month. Then got Disney stickers and each night the girls get to put a sticker on until it's time to go.

Hey look at my countdown clock :hourglass .....it's getting closer

This is always fun to plan every year for our vacation. One year we made a paper chain link that went from one of my sons bedrooms to the other sons bedroom. It was really fun and exciting to see it get closer and closer.

The next year I changed it a little. Instead of the chain links I made a disney train and each day they took down a train car until all that was left was the front of the train.

The year we went on a disney cruise we made waves that they took off until all that was left was the cruise ship.

Now this year I added a twist to the countdown chain. I printed off clipart pictures of all things that are Disney. Then I pasted a picture on the back of some Mickey heads and that way when they took one off each night they would have to name what each picture was and where they could find that in Disney World and to tell me about everything that they could think of about that picture. It has been so much fun and my boys can not wait until bedtime when they can take another mickey off of the wall.

I'm already thinking of a new countdown I can do for our next trip :cool1:
