We're leaving on Saturday, driving from Boston. :woohoo: We are planning on stopping in NC, either Rocky Mount or Wilson. Is anyone familiar with these areas? I have a Holiday in express booked in Wilson right now, but it doesn't seem like there is much around there (stores, fast food, restaurants...) The Rocky Mount exit seems to have some 'activity' going on. I don't want to be labeled a 'hotel snob' but I need a Brand hotel and it MUST have interior corriders..(not big on exterior or Motel type logdings:confused3 ) It's only for a stopover, but I want to be comfortable with the surrounding area.
Thanks for any help....:goodvibes

Of the two mentioned, Rocky Mount is probably the better choice, assuming you find a hotel that fits your needs.

A bit further south I have stayed in the Selma/Smithfield area several times. There is a very nice Hampton Inn in Selma and a very nice Comfort Inn about 1 mile down the road in Smithfield. Both offer breakfasts and interior hallways. I have felt safe in both areas.

We've stayed at the Jameson Inn off Exit 121 in Wilson a number of times. There's a cluster of hotels, gas stations and restaurants at that location. We usually arrive late at night and have bfast at Aunt Sarah's pancake house the next morning. If you are looking for nightlife, not sure what would be around.

Hope this helps!

Check out this website - http://www.usastar.com/i95/homepage.htm - it has lots of info. Also look at a map that shows railroads as well as highways. Somewhere in NC - maybe one of your areas but I can't remember - we had a motel close enough to two grade crossings for train horns to waken us all night.

Would that have been around Fayetteville? I seem to recall stopping with my parents one time and experiencing the same.
