We stayed for 3 nights/4 days in Clearwater Beach prior to our Orlando vacation and we loved it. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and i was nervous about it as there were some bad reviews, but we did not want to spend big bucks to be close to the beach and it worked out well. We had a kids suite which was clean, spacious and resonable. The restaurant and pool was also nice, great staff and close to the beach. We spent most of our time on the beach and at pier 60 and browsing some shops. We took a connecting flight to Orlando and saved $1000 by doing that over direct flights so we added this on the front of our vacation and it was a great relaxing start to our 3 weeks in Florida.

Tarpon Springs is close by and a neat little town. Just a fun place to spend a few hours. Sponge boats were interesting. My kids really injoyed Hellas for deserts after shopping for souveniers. Jonny Leverocks has very good seafood in Tampa.

Have a great trip

Thnks for your responses. I was wondering if you felt safe at the peir at night? Also which Holiday Inn did you stay in? We are staying for about 4 days before we head over to Disney.
Thnks again!:)

We visit St Pete Beach for the beach and all that implies. It is the perfect way to end a Disney trip...few crowds, no lines, cheap eats, soft sand, gentle surf, dolphins. Lots of unwinding and relaxing! Disney's DVC have spoiled us, hotel rooms aren't enough anymore. We found a little condo right on St Pete Beach for the same price as the beachfront hotel rooms we were renting in nearby resorts. Kitchen, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, washer/dryer, deck...oh yes!
With Tropicana Stadium an easy 15 minutes away, it's fun to take in a ball game during the stay. St Pete Beach is an older tourist spot so it's quiet with lots of affordable restaurants. Fort De Soto State Park is nearby and supposed to be a nice spot to visit (haven't been). Tampa International Airport (TPA) is about 30 minutes away and provides an alternative to Orlando International. Busch Gardens is in Tampa but I don't know how far a drive from St Pete Beach.
Sorry I'm rambling but this is one of our very favorite places to visit!
Happy travels. :3dglasses

is the hotel we stayed at and we all loved it, nothing super fancy but the pricetag matched what we got and was willing to pay so all was good. We were fine at going to the pier, we went everynight other than our first night there as we had been up at 3:30 am and did not arrive at the hotel until 8:30 so it was something to eat and to bed for us. I even took my 2 girls down to the beach one evening while the boys watched sports on tv and did not feel unsafe at all...i did see police patrolling the area and did not see anything or anyone who made me unconfortable walking in the evening at it was dark. We loved it and would go back just for a relaxing beach holiday...its just too bad its so far from us..........ENJOY

If you would like to see some of my pictures, i would be happy to share :)
