I have tentatively booked a one way ($48 from MCO to Fairfield Orlando at Cypress Palms) taxi serivce with www.sejactransportation.com solely due to it being the least expensive service I can find. It looks like they transport you in a taxi vs. a town car. Maybe thats why the price is lower then the typical town car services.

Has anyone heard of (or used) this service?

If so, would you mind sharing your experience with me?

Thank you

There is a thread on page 8 where I asked about transportation from the Amtrak Station to CRS and NJBILL told me about santo and his service. He is cuurently at AKL and will be taking a Disney Cruise after that. You could send him a private message or e-mail by clicking on his name. I am sure he would reply and let you know about the service. I beleive they are also listed on the transportation area of mouseforless site.

I hope you get other replys that may be more helpful than mine. ;)

I just went to this drivers site and saw his picture. The cab is a Mears Checker taxi van and the driver I know still works for Mears. He cannot pick you up at the airport (MCO). If he does he is doing it illegally. In fact I will be questioning Mears about the tactics this driver is using.

Edd, would you mind letting me know what Mears says? Before booking , I just want to make sure that everything is legit.

Thank you

Edd,

While it may be a violation of his contract with Mears that would NOT make it "illegal" Now if he does not have the applicable permits required by MCO then that would probably meet the qualification for illegal. Mears is not at last check a legal entity with the power to make laws. They can fire you, but they can't put you in jail.

Carol,

He drives a checker van. The Mears checker fleet is not allowed or permitted to pick up in at MCO. The yellow Mears fleet is the only Mears cabs permitted in the airport.

So basically his checker van is not permitted to pick up in the airport. I would suggest, if he picks up passengers in the airport, he is picking up illegally.

Let me tell you a little story about Orlando International Airport. For years we have had drivers operating their vehicles in unappropriate manners. Drivers would go into the terminal, find passengers needing rides and solicit them. Drivers would stand right on the baggage floor and if you asked for help they would solicit you. Skycaps would solicit to help you find a ride. They would than give you to a driver who paid the skycaps $10.00 to $15.00 for the referral. Guess who really paid for that referral, Yes, you did. Drivers would stand by exits and solicit passengers. They would than flat rate them and overcharge passengers for the rides. Passengers, not knowingly, would meet these drivers and succumb to the driver's prices, thinking that it was standard. It got so bad that airport officials not wearing badges coming to work or getting off the planes were solicited. You, the passenger may have had an encounter with one of these drivers in the past. That encounter may have soured you for the future.

Drivers who did not want to pay the fee for picking up passengers would carry their passengers to the bullpen or meet them at the Hyatt Hotel outside the terminal. There are cases where cabs not permitted in the airport have gone to the Hyatt Hotel and picked up passengers.

This has changed now. The airport has cleaned its act up. There are several ways to be picked up at the airport and be covered, by insurance, in case of any problems. Demand taxis, you land with no reservation for transportation, you go and pick up a taxi at the taxi stand. DME, Mears and Bee line shuttle, prepaid limousines, towncars, SUV's, vans and the rental cars are the major providers of transportation to passengers. I may have missed a few, but you get the idea. The airport has put into effect a force that enforces its regulations. The drivers soliciting are no more, the regional shuttles that solicit passengers as the walk down the commercial lane are no more. The non permitted taxis, vans and town cars that picked you up at the Hyatt or in the parking garage will soon be extinct. You the passengers will get a vehicle and driver that is permitted at the airport. Permitted is important for one big thing. Permitted to you means that vehicle is covered by proper insurance.

The fellow this thread is about has been seen loading passengers at the Hyatt. He cannot load them in the legal commercial lanes because checker cab is not permitted to pick up at the airport. This is a good time to tell that driver his times are limited too. Unless he leaves the company he is with his vehicle will eventually be caught loading illegally and he will no longer work for Mears. He than can permit a vehicle of his own and work on his own schedule. He cannot permit another vehicle, on his own, while working for Mears.

You, the passenger will benefit by the actions taken at one of the best airports in the world.

OK So if what Edd is saying is correct then I would agree with him that this is probably not within the letter of the law.

However, there appear to be TWO issues here.
1. Not a permitted driver for MCO with the resulting risk. (Whatever that might be)
2. His contract with Mears.

Issue 1 might be a consideration for the passenger. Issue 2 is Mear's issue and not one I would care about except that IF Mears owns the car I would assume they could take it back.

However, I would disagree with the description of "the best airport in the world" Seveal years ago that would be true. However, since MCO does not seem to know how to consistently run a security line most of my fellow business travelers would move it to pretty low on the list! MCO was at one point a great airport, now it's just so so.....While the shopping is nice if the line for security hits one if it's long points who has time to enjoy it????

And as recently as 4 months ago I was SOLICITED by a driver at MCO. So I am not sure the clean up is that great.

I have received PMs asking me to recommend a driver or towncar. I don't recommend any of them. I think that it's kind of like the airlines, all of them can have a good or bad day. I have decided that due to actions I felt were unreasonable (including the above mentioned solicitiation) that I will either take ME or rent a car. I don't feel like worrying about my driver showing up, not showing up, being rude etc... I have read lots of posts on here and to me it's just not worth the risk that something might go wrong.

I am not saying not to use a car service, just that for ME it's not the right way to go. YMMV! :moped:

Thank you so much for posting your thoughts on this issue.

I am staying off-site (therefore can't use ME) as well as have vision issues therefore, unfortunately, can't rent a car.

I just liked Sejac due to the price being so much lower then the other 3 or 4 towncar services I received quotes on.

Now you know why his rates are so low. Legal drivers and the airport will not allow him to continue to operate in the manner he chooses.

Well I guess I am back to the drawing board.

Don't give up yet! There is another company many members here have used and have been pleased with both the service and the price. They include a 30 minute grocery stop also. If this dosen't interest you then maybe you can ask then to adjust their rate since you will not use that feature.
www.sunraytransportation.com You can find a thread a few pages back or do a rearch.

Hopefully they can help you.

Riu Girl,
How are you planning to get to the parks? My concern is that I cannot think of one offsite hotel that has gotten really great reviews on transport to the parks.

I'll echo Carol's point. Offsite shuttle service, particularly from the timeshare condos, isn't very good and isn't always free. It looks like your resort has DAILY SERVICE for a fee.

Gas, insurance and airport fees are expensive. I'd be surprised if any service can be more than $5-$10 below the "market" and be legitamite. I WOULDN'T COUNT ON A BIG SAVINGS.

As most folks know, I will pay for service.

Lewis has a good point if you get someone too cheap be careful sometimes you get what you pay for.....

Riu Girl,

I just had some people staying at Best Western Lakeside on 192 who said that transportation to the Disney Parks for them was free. They also get free transportation to Sea World. You might check it out. I don't know for sure.

You probably got that price because he won't have to pay the airport pick up fees others have to pay.

CarolA:
Thanks for the concern. I really enjoy reading your posts. I called the resort and they assured me that they have a dedicated shuttle a few times per day to the TTC for a cost of $3 per person round trip. I am fine with this. We will actually be in Florida for 4 weeks and the first week (our week at the Fairfield) DH won't be with us, therefore, no rental car. That week we will not be doing any theme parks, and no ADRs. We are planning on going to Disney a few times that week to go to the Boardwalk area, DTD, POLY to see the EWP and WISHES, AKL to see the animals. Since no parks or ADRs, we are not very concerned about shuttle time tables.

The resort will also shuttle us (for free) to local restaurants local grocery store.

I have read on tripadvisor some info. from posters who have used the shuttle service to/from Disney TTC and were happy.

Thank you again for the concern. I guess I am just having a hard time paying $65 one way for a town car serivice when I am only paying $165 for the condo for the week. But that is like comparing apples to oranges.

I'm sure you are 100% correct on this Edd. I will have to start looking at other town car services.
Thank you for the info. thus far.

OK... I just was worried since most folks seem to wind up very frustrated with shuttle services.

Have a good trip.
