Hello, still in early stages of planning, nothing booked.
For anyone who has been in early March, what kind of discounts can we hope for? Any free dinning? We will be at least 5 people, maybe up to 7. Mostly adults, with two 5 year olds. If only five go, hoping for a cabin. Not sure where if all 7.

There weren't any free dining offers for the general public anytime between January 1, 2013 to Sept 1, 2013. There were room only discounts in March 2013, with blackout dates for spring break.

The cheapest and best option would be to get 2 connecting rooms at a value resort. It will be a lot cheaper than the cabins and the cabins only have 1 bathroom - and who wants to share 1 bathroom with 5 adults ? Plus I think the cabins are WAY overpriced for what they are and are in need of some serious updating. There are usually discounts the first week of March, but it will be this fall, probably October, before they release anything for the general public for that timeframe.

Thanks for the input. We love the cabins, and the Fort. If we decide to stay at a different resort, it would probably be AoA, or a moderate. Just interested in finding out what people got for that time frame this year :)

There was the stay play and dine deal in the winter. It worked out cheaper for us for room only but not sure how that worked out for others.

Be aware Mardi Gras is March 4th next year so a lot of us New orleans folks are there that week. I have been 2 years in a row during Mardi Gras and it's pretty crowded.

My family will be taking our first trip to Disney World the first week of March 2014 too! :woohoo: I say first, because it will be for me @ 36 and our sons who will be 6 and 12 when we visit, The DH went when he was toddler, but of course he doesn't remember much. We're debating whether to go just the 4 of us or to take my mother along as well. I've found where we can stay off site with some benefits and would only up our total by about $500-$600 by bringing her with us. I wish I could get more information about how much getting two connecting rooms at one of the value resorts would run though.

It didn't even occur to me that Fat Tuesday falls that week! I guess that means my planning I've done so far will fly out the window cause rates will probably be higher than I'm anticipating...ugh! What I've done so far is get rates for a time comparable season wise then add to it a little but I'd be willing to bet prices are higher cause of Mardi Gras. Any tips from people that have been during Mardi Gras in terms of rate hikes and such would be so appreciated! Really any tips would be appreciated. Our plans are to arrive March 3 (we will arrive around 7-8 pm) Parks Tues. Wed. Thurs. then check out Friday morning and leave early. Well, that's what the hubby wants but I'm hoping to convince him that staying the extra day will work out better and still not break us and arrive on Sunday night, parks on Mon-Thurs, then leave Friday as planned.

I'm sorry if I ramble, I'm just super excited! :cool1: My father was in the navy before I was born so when we'd broach the subject of vacations he'd say "I've been all over the world already, I don't have anything else I want to see!" so we never went anywhere growing up. Unfortunately my husband and I have never had the means to be able to go before now...we didn't even have a honeymoon! :confused3:worried::( You can imagine how his bombshell of saying we could go on and get something locked down (FINALLY) went with me! Disney World has pretty much been a lifelong dream of mine that I never thought would happen and I swear I'd have bounced off the walls were it not that we decided we're going to try and surprise the boys with the trip and give them little info beforehand, other than we're going to Florida for a week!

The stay play dine deal worked out great for us. We ended payin approx $400 for dining for 4 adults over ten days. I wouldnt mind that again. I was also planning first week of march. Mardi gras just messes it all up. We go for ten days... the last week of feb would be fine. But we would check in during pres week. Which is usualy black outs.
What i hate is booking my trip...booking adrs. N then having to adjust to a deal. Grrrrrr lol

Its really a tough call as far as discouts and how Mardi Gras affects the season rates. In 2011, it was late Feb and peak rates. In 2012, i think it was regular season and that was earlier in Feb. i'm frustrated too not knowing what to plan season wise and what days to visit. We are flexible any time from Feb 28- March 9. I really wanted to fly next year so trying to coordinate when Southwest opens travel for that time and WDW puts out room rates/seasons for 2014 and then look for deals! Here's hoping we get something good!

We made the mistake of being in MK on fat Tuesday (Feb. 12th) this year. It was horribly crowded. But that made the following days at EP and AK so very welcome with no crowds at all. I don't know if MK stayed that busy all week or if that day was the worst. At least with Easter later in 2014 you may not have all the tour groups from Argentina on holiday at WDW like we did the second week of February.
