DD's fiance wants to surprise her...and he's asking for my help. He knows how I LOVE to plan trips!!!;)

I told him I'd research some destinations and resorts and give everything to him to make a final choice. Two prerequisites....tropical beach for her and a golf course for him.

So....lets here it DIS'ers!!! Where did you go for your honeymoon? Favorite location, favorite resort, etc.

The groom has been to Cancun on several occasions, so he'd rather take her somewhere else. The bride has never left the continental U.S.

...and as for DisneyWorld Honeymoons...the bride's grandparents live in Florida and she's spent numerous vacations there. So, as much as we LOVE the "WORLD", it's not where she wants to spend her honeymoon.

I wish I could help with both...too bad she's completely set on a tropical beach...Minnesota has some excellent resorts with PGA quality golf courses and if she's getting married in the summer, we have some of the best weather of the entire country.

I am guessing you can check some Bahama islands and I am pretty sure somewhere in Hawaii there is a golf course. Of course, not knowing the budget for the honeymoon, that's kind of hard to make any sort of recommendations.

The Couples resorts in Ocho Rios and Negril Jamiaca are both outstanding. They are couples only (no kids allowed), all inclusive resorts that are very popular with the honeymoon crowd. These places define romantic. My wife and I have been to the one in Ocho Rios 3 times and can not recommend it highly enough. You cant beat Couples for a romantic vacation.

Its a bit on the pricey side, but its worth every penny. When you consider that they are all inclusive (the staff is not allowed to accept tips and most off site expeditions are already included in the price), the price is more than reasonable. All food, drinks, watersports, scuba diving, horseback riding and most offsite trips are included in the price.

The only draw back to Couples in this case is that neither resort has their own golf course. They get around this by bussing golfers to a nearby course. I'm not a golfer, but those I have met there who went to the course thought highly of it. Be warned though, this is one of the few cases where you will have to take out your wallet, as you are required to pay for a caddy.

You can check out Couples at www.couples.com

I've heard wonderful things about Sandels resorts - another all inclusive. They have a wide variety of locations.

Golf is included at their Jamaica resorts and their St. Lucia resorts. Some of the resorts have golf on property, the others will transport you there for free.

Let us know what he decides!!

oh, I also have friends who went to Cozumel and loved it - but I would guess that's somewhat along the lines of Cancun.

Aruba has a gorgeous set of beaches and a new, world class golf course. It's pricey, though.

Lots of suites at the timeshare places and first class hotels.

Cruises are GREAT for honeymoons! Lots of beaches and romance.

Also, Maui has one of the best golf courses in the world at the Grand Wailea and there are lots of nice tropical beaches.

I myself prefer the carribean to Hawaii though.

No question about it HAWAII!!!! The beaches there are gorgeous, (stay away from Waikiki, too commercial) and the golf courses are to die for!!! There are several resorts on either Maui or Kauai that would fit the bill. The few that come to mind are the ones we stayed at during our honeymoon. The Princeville in Kauai has probably one of the most beautiful and pretty difficult courses in Hawaii. It is located on the North Shore of Kauai, so the golf course is build around the cliffs of the shoreline. The hotel itself is built into a cliff, so the lobby is on the top floor!!! The beach is great, since it overlooks the Na'Apali (sp) Coast. The other one is on Maui and it's the Four Seasons Wailea. In Wailea, there are 3 or 4 VERY nice golf courses and very challenging, just not as scenic as the one at the Princeville. You could suggest what we did, stay at both!!! We were on Kauai for a week, and then Maui for a week, and it was wonderful. There is just so much to see out there, and it is of course, VERY romantic!!!

It wasnt my honeymoon, but for my high school spring break I went to Bermuda. It was absolutely beautiful!

WOW !! I can't believe that WDWHound posted about Couples. We spent our honeymoon there and absolutely, postively, loved it! In fact, we've spent the last eighteen years of our marriage saying that we have to find a way to go back.....somehow kids interfere with those plans!

Another vote for Hawaii! Bermuda is wonderful but few resorts
actually have good beaches and if the bride is wanting beaches-
Hawaii. Aruba is windy and arrid-not lush tropical. What's their
budget? Jamaica's Super Clubs are wonderful, Sandals are really good too. I prefer other islands to Jamaica but not asthetically.
It's gorgeous. The locals are really poor and there is lots of begging and aggressive selling going on. I don't like the social
traditions of constant touching that goes on, as an American,
it makes me uncomfortable. The people mean no harm, it's just
too forward for me. Hawaii's Big Island of Hawaii has several
ultra luxury resorts with great beaches. Mauna Lani and Mauna Kea are among the best. truly world class golf.

DH & I went to Maui for our honeymoon (we will have been married 6 years on Oct. 25) & I highly recommend it. It was absolutely beautiful. I don't know what the budget is, but we stayed at the Maui Kaanapali Villas. It is fairly inexpensive, but very nice. The rooms are big, we had a 1 bedroom villa with a kitchen that was nice. What we liked the most was the beach. There was a reef right off the beach, so we could snorkle right there. There aren't a lot of other hotels around it, so there weren't many people at all at the beach. This resort was perfect for us, but some may not like it as it doesn't some of the ammenities as the more deluxe hotels do. There is also an Embassy Suites that is located on Kaanapali Beach that is beautiful. It has more ammenities, so you may look at it, too.
Let us know what they decide!

As it was where I went for my honeymoon at the end of May, I would highly recommend Kauai. I've been told that Princeville is some of the best golf in the islands (I don't golf -yet - so I can't tell you for sure), and the rest of the island is amazing. If you want any details, let me know!

I'm a meeting planner and have planned events all over the U.S. and have travelled in the Caribbean and Mexico.

Here's some ideas...Hawaii is a great choice (stay away from Honolulu) we liked The Big Island-Hawaii best!.
Pros - beautiful beaches, world class golf, wonderful weather, tons to do, buy and see
Cons - Expensive and hard to get to.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (Westin Regina)
Pros - beautiful beaches, world class golf, wonderful weather, tons to do, buy, and see.
Cons-Expensive and inconvenient to get and it's Mexico (enough said)

Not a big fan of Jamaica. It's okay as long as you stay on your resort property but go off property and it's a ghetto (no offense).

Depending on the time of year and how much time they have how about a trip from San Diego (stay at the Lodge at Torrey Pines) up the coast. We did this and stopped in towns along the way....La Jolla, Laguna...all types of beach towns with tons to do and see. I always wished that we had rented a convertible and gone all the way to San Francisco.

San Francisco and the Napa Valley are beautiful places to honeymoon. San Fran is my most favorite city! Stay in the city for four/five days and then drive up to Napa. Not too sure about the golf though but I assume that the bay area is like any other large city and has plenty.

Nothing exotic here, Patty. We took a drive around Lake Michigan. Up into Door County, back down and up over the top in Michigan, down to Mackinaw, Traverse City and a ferry boat across the lake from Ludington to Milwaukee. I bet he is looking for something more exciting, LOL. But, we did enjoy it. Good luck. :wave2:
