We are hoping to have an ADR at Rose & Crown during our trip in August; but more importantly we are hoping to get a table outside on the patio for Illuminations. So, those of you who have done this in the say the past 6 months, what time was your ADR and what was your strategy for getting the patio table? As nuts as this sounds, we've never seen Illuminations in all of our trips to WDW....we deserve to be taken out back and shot for that ~ I know!!! But, I'm making it so DH can't look at me and say he's too tired and just wants to go back to the resort and swim; I made sure to include a beer and food in the bargain....:rotfl2:! Thanks for any help you can give me!!

There is no way to guarantee patio seating at Rose & Crown anytime, but especially for Illuminations. Seating is wherever they have an available table at the time of ADR. You have to take what's available or lose your ADR. If you are seated inside, there is a place you can go outside to view Illuminations away from the patio tables.

That's fine, I have no problem with that, but what time should I gear my ADR for? I don't want one for 4:30 and booking one for 8:00 might be pushing it a bit too late....

Just a word of warning...a light breeze could easily carry sulfurous smoke from the fire works right over to the patio area, making for a very unpleasant dining experience. WE enjoy dining at Rose and Crown, but would never mix dining with Illuminations.

Well, my hope was to be just about done with dinner and maybe be enjoying a cocktail afterward or maybe a cup of coffee. We are planning to be there in August, so I don't really expect much breeze, however, it is possible.

But I'm still looking for a suggestion for a good time to try and be there for the show.

Try for 7:30. By the time you get seated, order and finish your meal, you should be just about to 9:00. Take note of what Chuck S mentioned, though. Last night a heavy cloud of smoke was still lingering over Future World as we were leaving. Try to be finished with your meal by 9:00. They won't rush you out of Rose & Crown since they've already seated everyone who is going to be seated.

Anytime between 7:00 and 7:30. We've eaten there twice, and both times we were seated outside for Illuminations. :thumbsup2 Good luck!

Yep, and don't worry about the gust of wind either. About ten of my wife and my best dinners/nights at the mouse were spent on that patio. Nothing to worry about. Think the PP was just trying to scare people away so that they could get a prime seat. I always ask for the latest time possible then when you check in, tell them that you want to sit outside. You may get passed up by some in line, but I have always gotten a table.

Thank you all so much! So, I'll aim for 7:15 and ask for the patio when we check in. We will be celebrating a Birthday so maybe we'll get lucky!

We've eaten on the patio many times with no problem, but there really are times when smoke, and even debris from the fireworks does find its way to the patio. I don't know about Chuck, but I can assure you I don't care where I sit at Rose & Crown or where I see Illuminations from. That's a tourist thing.

How about trying La Hacienda instead? The restaurant is enclosed, so no worries about smoke. But they dim the lights and pipe in the music. And they have huge windows so you can see the show right from your table. My dad and I did this just a few weeks ago, and loved it.

Exactly, and when the smoke and debris do move that direction, it isn't very nice. If you have a good, breezeless night, R & C is a great location, with a little breeze, not so much. The smoke can also hit some of the HC seating area adjacent to R&C, not good for those folks with breathing issues, we usually find a spot on the opposite side of the lake.
