Looking for a good deal on a backpack for my 11 DD...any ideas????

There should still be some "back to school" closeouts around. I know I saw some backpacks on clearance at our local Kohl's. You might also want to try one of the office supply stores for left over backpacks.

If you are looking for a good back pack that will last I say spend the money on a LLBean one. Every other back pack I have bought since falls apart by the end of the school year. My kids used their LLBean ones for several years. Well worth the money.

I agree with the PP. Go with LLBean. It may be a few more dollars up front, but you won't need to buy her another backpack again. Plus keep your reciept as LLBean guarentees their products so if it wears out you can get another one!

I will only buy my daughter another backpack to get the larger size as she grows, but the one she has should last her at least another year or two.

My son has had his backpack for 3 years now and it still looks great, needs a washing at the moment though.

LL Bean back packs r great..i bought 2 of them for my boys 2 or 3 years ago and they still r good. I was them at the end of each school year. i also got a great deal on them as my dis. friends posted it and i think i got each for 16 bucks!

i've seen some ed hardy ones at marshalls or tjmax if your looking more along the lines of "trendy"

I can also attest to the lasting power of Jansport. My DD is on her second year of her backpack and it has NO wear. I will buy her a new one next year just so she can have a new one for middle school.

Swiss. We bought one for the oldest when he was in 7th grade. It finally died last year (10th grade). We found one for middle son this year at Marshall's for about $25. I think I paid $40 for the oldest son's at Kohl's at that time. I know I cringed at paying that much but after seeing how well it held up, I would gladly pay that again. The oldest also carried his all day in 9th & 10th grade. The school is so large that he just swaps out his books from day to day and carries it to every class. In the three years he's been in HS, he hasn't used his locker yet.

another vote for LL Bean. I had the same LL bean backpack for all four years of high school and all four years of college. I still have the thing!

I agree.. the extra money is worth it, if you ever have any problem, they will replace it!

My dds have Lands End packbacks and are on their third year with them. They still look pretty new, I wash them every so often just to keep them looking nicer.

On a side note, I bought them lunch sacks from Lands End this year. In younger dds the veclro came unstitched this week. I called them and they are sending a replacement - with monorgaming, no cost.

I second the thought on getting a good backpack and having it last for more than one year. But I also think Kohls is a good idea if you are on a budget. My friend just told me that some of them were marked down to $4.

My DS is on his fourth year with a Lands End back pack. Love them!

We are on our 2nd year of a Land's End backpack. I know they have quite a few in their overstock section. They also replace or repair I belive for the life on the bag (could be wrong on that though, but it is a great warranty regardless).

I think they are offering free shipping now as well.

A few years ago we got Target backpacks - by month 2 of school I was buying both of my kids new bags - that's when we went with Lands End.

I agree with jansport, you should be able to find some cheap right now. My son's has been beaten up so much, washed in the machine everything it's 4 or 5 years old. My dd's is on her second year and it looks brand new, it's not even dirty. I paid $7 for it on clearance at target(the cheap character ones are awful, the trasport jansports holdup)! They already did the clearance so you are out of luck there but maybe cheap on ebay?

The zippers hold up so well and they gurantee them too.

I agree with the Lands End/LL Bean comments. Go for the extra money because they last forever.....literally. We still have and use DD's LandsEnd back pack from kindergarten. She is 22!!! She is still using the LLBean I got her in 9th grade. We even throw it in the washer when its dirty. It comes out looking good as new. I have a LLBean computer one that has lasted through 3 lap tops!

I have, actually, already checked out local stores. The only ones that had ANY where Wal-mart (more for younger kids & poor quality) & Kohl's (only a couple & were skull patterns.)

She has a LL Bean we bought about 3 yrs ago that she uses but doesn't really like anymore. (It's pale blue - which she is tired of. We will either consign it or pass it down.) I looked at the deluxe LL Bean (maybe the foilage color) but I'm not sure. Wish they had a percent off sale or something. I don't really need a giftcard b/c there is nothing else I want to purchase from them.

I had a Jansport when I was in college & loved it but can't seem to find any. Didn't think about checking ebay. I saw a couple in the stores back in Sept. but it was the cheapers ones ($25) & the quality didn't look as good as the one I use to have.

I'll look into Land's End too. Thanks!!!

Another vote for llbean, and I have an 11 year old. With 2 dd's, theirs have lasted throughout their school years! In the long run it will save you a fortune, but they are not that expensive anyway. They continue to look brand new, and you can have them monogrammed-they love this!! And LLBean will replace it for any reason at all. Plus, they come in a ton of great colors.

FYI - just got an email from Lands End that everything is 25% off and ships free. Not sure if it includes overstocks, but that does lower the price of some very nice backpacks. Happy hunting!

I totally agree with this...especially for a middle schooler. Both of my kids have LL Bean back packs (they are 10 and 14). My 10 year old has had his for a year, and it shows NO wear at all. My 14 year old got his at the beginning of this year and it still looks new.
