We are in the middle of planning our ADRs for our trip in August. Members of our family suggested doing dinner at T-Rex at DTD. I've heard from someone that it is loud. I will have a skittish 15 month old with me and was just wondering if that is true. Also what is the food like? Any feedback would be appreciated.:)

We went in September of 2009 for my dino-obsessed son. We liked it-the theming and decor are really fun, and the food was good. My kids were almost 5 and 26 months at the time, and neither of them was scared or anxious about the dinosaurs or the noise. It was loud, but I remember it being "busy restaurant with lots of noise" kind of loud, not "scary dinosaurs" loud...I could be wrong about that though since it's been a while!

One thing I will say is that the portions are HUGE. We had 4 adults and the two kids, and we split two entrees (the nachos and something else I can't remember) and got the Extinction dessert (I think that's what it's called-the volcano with cake and ice cream), and couldn't finish everything. That dessert is gigantic!

If no one in your group particularly loves dinosaurs I don't know that I would be desperate to go there.

It's loud because there's a zillion people in there. It's an interesting looking restaurant - dino's everywhere. An "ice cave"....everything comes to live and growls and moves about.

The food is actually pretty good. Nice variety on the menu. I think the portion sizes are substantial. We've always had good service there.... the servers work their tails off....lots of tables crammed in, so servers are working double time to serve everyone and navigate the layout.

I think it's one of the better places in DTD.

P.S. The dino's aren't all that scary, but some kids are taken aback. I did hold my 5 year old up last year so that the T-Rex would look like it was going to eat him and we took pictures of it.....the thing came to life right then, and he laughed and thought it was great.

Scared the crap out of me, though.

Yes, it is loud. Its a place I've done once and that is enough. Kids actually had enough by the time we left - we had really slow service - and were there almost 2 hours and all we had were salads and kids meals. But I think we just had a bad waitress.

We were there at the beginning of February- that and Coral Reef were our 2 favorite restaurants for our whole 2 weeks. We have two 9 year old boys, one 6 year old boy, and a 6 year old girl. I agree it was LOUD!! In fact, our server and us were laughing because we had to shout to hear each other most of the time- just bad timing whenever he came to the table the dinosaurs were in "action!" He was awesome- great service and very helpful. My kids weren't scared in the least- we sat in the back in the "forest" area- the ice cave was fun to watch- we were right next to it. But when we walked thru it everyone was weird colors and I think it would have been hard to even think straight by the end of a meal in there! :lmao: Our food was good- no complaints. I would go again!

T-Rex is essentially Rainforest Cafe with donosaurs. I had expected to dislike it (I think RC food sucks) but was AMAZED by it. My DD21mo loved it and we sat directly beside a dinosaur.
The food was good and the portions were huge. We split a large appetiser and had drinks for about $30 and it was a great light dinner.

You should probably try it, though last time I didn't care for my Paleo Shrimp - just blah.
There was a toddler with us and she seemed to be fine with the dinos.

Enjoy.

:)

My family loves TRex! It's so much fun! It is just like Rainforest Cafe but with Dinosaurs. Visually it is amazing! Everything does come to "life" at times with roaring dinosaurs and meteor showers and such. It's loud but I don't think scary in any way. We've always had really good food and service here. My boys love the ribs. One more tip. If you can't get an ADR thru the Disney system and really want to eat here try walking up. We've always had good luck getting a table just by walking up even when we couldn't reserve one online. They only reserve a certain amount of tables thru Disney so just because the Disney system says there is no availability doesn't mean there isn't a table available. Enjoy!

We went there in September and the whole family loved it, not just the atmosphere, the food too. My daughter who is afraid of the gorillas at Rainforest wasn't scared at all. :confused3 We did show her the videos on the wdw website beforehand, so that might have helped. If your 15 month old is very nervous though this might not be an enjoyable experience for your family.

We (5 adults) went for the first time in December last year. It was a Thursday and our reservation was at 8 p.m. We've always enjoyed Rainforest Cafe, so we thought we'd really like it. While it wasn't a horrible experience (our server was SO good! Very friendly and quick), the food was nothing memorable, but even more than that the place was SO EXTREMELY loud! Oh my goodness, we eventually just stopped talking because it was so hard to hear over the restaurant noise. I think the meteor shower and dino noise was relatively quiet in comparison. This could all depend where you are seated. We had a big round booth right beside the Wooly Mammoths.

I took my younger son when he was 19 months and he was fine (except for the super-slow service which made him antsy and want out of the highchair). They have a meteor "storm" every few minutes (like rainforest has a rain "storm") and some noisy animatronics.
People will be walking around taking pictures - whether they are actually eating at the place or not who knows.
There were always lines for the bathroom.
The food was decent but pricey (of course). Your kids will talk you into buying the fun desserts.
There's a nice gift shop on your way out with coin machines.

We were there with our two year old earlier this month. He loved it. We thought it was pretty loud - but we were in the Ice Cave - I do wonder if it would have been a little less noisy in the general seating area given the acoustics of the cave. But the meteor shower on-top of the already loud atmosphere should give you some pause. But our little guy loved it and that's all that mattered to me.

Oh, and the food was okay - about what you'd get at a TGIFridays, Chilis, etc. Prices were in-line with touristy areas...$15 hamburgers (you can get chips included or pay a surcharge for fries), pastas closer to $20, and steak/seafood in the $25-$40 range.

We saved a bit of money by taking in a $.99 kids meal coupon for Rainforest Cafe - we checked with them before sitting down to make sure they would accept it, but no problems at all...otherwise, I think the kid's meals are $7-$10 or so.

Like pp said it is in essence Rainforest Cafe with Dino's. Yes it is quite loud. We had 6 kids in our party ranging from 15 month old to 9 year old. They all loved it. While waiting for our meals to come out it was a great adventure to walk around and check out the different rooms with the different motifs.

We like Rainforest Cafe better. We didn't eat in the "ice cave" at T-Rex, but could see it very well from where we sat. We did go through it to go to the restrooms, and I could not stand the sensation of those bright strobe-like lights, so could never eat in there .
