I'm trying to compile a file of 'Secrets' for Disneyland like I have for WDW. Anyone have some good ones? I've searched some web site, and have a good start, but thought you would have some more! Also - anything for California Adventure would be great!!!
Thanks!

Sorry I Can't Help You. I Am Starting To Plan A Trip For Next Year And I Can't Wait For Your Replies. I Do Want To Ask You Which Web Site You Have Been Searching So Far For Your Tips. Things I've Searched So Far Tend To Deal Mainly With Orlando. Thanks

My favorite secret is a few on the Indiana Jones rides. (I think I got these from hiddenmickeys.org)

1. When you are walking down the queue and you enter the cave area, there is a sign that warns you not to disturb the bats. If you look into the crevices that emit black light, you'll see several bats hanging around.

2. Shortly after the caves, you'll enter the spike room. There is one big pole on the left midway through the room. A sign says not to shake the pole. If you give it a good pull, you'll hear the room start crashing down, look up and the ceiling starts coming down.

3. After the safety video, you'll enter an office area where you basically make a u-turn. Look up at the far back, above the projector, there is an eeyore sign. This is an homage to the fact that the ride was built on the old eeyore parking lot. Its really hard to see though.

And here's one for the Winnie the Pooh ride - after the heffalump and woozle scene, look behind you as you pass through a doorway. There is a tribute to the Country Bears, since the Pooh ride was built in the spot where the Country Bears used to be.

Ok, one more, then I'll let others contribute. In CA, on Soarin', there is a golf scene. Watch the golf ball as it comes towards you, there's a hidden mickey on it. And the golfer that hits it is Michael Eisner.

When you walk through the castle, look down just as you come through the arch on the fantasyland side - there's a little brass boss in the cement. This marks the exact center of Disneyland (prior to the building of Toontown). I always feel like I can feel Walt's ghost when we stop there.

The story behind It's a Small World is that it's what you get when children decide to recreate the entire world in their nursery, which is why all the dolls look the same (or so I was told).

To the right of the castle is a little scene with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in white plaster. The figures were originally marble, and they had arrived from Italy with no return address in the 1960s (I think), and Walt asked John Hench to put them in the park somewhere. John's first response was to think that people would think the dwarves and Snow White were buried in Disneyland - Walt's advice? Don't make it look like a graveyard. The difficulty John had was that all 8 statues were exactly the same height. Eventually, he decided on a forced perspective display, and it's still there. (OK, the marble got replaced by plaster because they'd been mounted on pressure treated wood that leached the copper into the marble & turned it green).

Does that help?

Great! Thanks for all the additions so far - I've already copied and pasted them!

When you go to Snow White's Grotto, stand by the wishing well, every 15 minutes or so, the song "I'm Wishing" will play -- it's a special treat.

Disneyland is a "show" and the cast members are "on stage." When you enter Disneyland, notice the red brick - it's supposed to represent the red carpet. The posters hanging in the left & right tunnels are similar to movie posters previewing what you are about to see.

In Fantasyland, look above the Snow White Adventures attraction - you'll see a window w/a closed curtain -- the curtain will open and the queen will peer down at you. There is a brass apple in the queue as you enter Snow White's Scary Adventure --- touch the brass apple & something will happen.

In the Villains Shop in New Orleans Square there is a cage with a witch -- turn the key to the cage.

Star Tours stands where Adventure Thru Inner Space used to be ... when you are getting ready to leave the warehouse, you'll see a HUGE microscope. That is the one they used to have that the guests would go through when they were shrunk.

Every attraction that has been replaced has a reminder of that attraction in the new one. In Indiana Jones, it's the Eeyore sign in the queue - that was the section of parking lot that used to be there. In Star Tours it was Adventure Thru Inner Space. Winnie the Pooh stands where Country Bear used to be.

Walt Disney had an apartment that he actually spent time in while Disneyland was being built, and he would often stay there in the early days. This tiny apartment is over the fire station on Main Street. He used to slide down the pole, but they've blocked off the hole to the apartment there. There is a light burning in the window in honor of Walt Disney.

There were a set of apartments being built for Walt & Roy Disney in New Orleans Square. You can see their initials in the wrought iron of the balcony. He died before they were finished, and they served as offices for many years. They were then opened as a Disney Gallery showing original works of the Imagineers. It's currently being refurbished for the 50th anniversary. The balcony is now used for Fantasmic Dessert Buffet.

On Tom Sawyers Island there is a fort that is closed now. The fort used to have a nondescript door that when you went through it would lead you through a tunnel down to the river's edge. The tunnel is still there, but they've long closed off the exit from the fort.

The waters from Jungle Cruise, Rivers of America, Castle moat, & the area near Fantasia Gardens is all connected - one water way. The water near Fantasia Gardens used to be home to the very exciting Motor Boat ride.

The Matterhorn has two queues - the Fantasyland side, and the Tomorrowland side. The track on the Fantasyland side is a little smoother and a tiny bit longer. The Adventureland side is a bit rockier & includes a dip that the Fantasyland side doesn't have.

On Main Street, at gutter level, there is a pipe that emits yummy smells to entice people to go to the candy store. At Christmas, they pipe out peppermint smell.

At Coke Corner, there is a pianist who has played well over 20 years - his name is Rod Miller - if you have a chance, listen to him play. He's developed a little following, and they sell his cd's - very nice & talented man.

On Indiana Jones, on the actual ride, you'll go past a skeleton room. There is a skeleton on the left side, as soon as you enter, who has a Mickey Mouse hat with the name Bones on it. .... I've actually seen him - but only when I've sat in the back row of the car.

The queue for Indiana Jones has writing on the wall. There is actually a translation for the characters. When Indiana Jones first opened, every guest got a card as they entered the queue so they could decipher the writing on the wall. You can still look up the code on the Internet - it's called Mara's font http://www.perry.com/disney/indy/indy.html

Tink33 still has her card & I still have mine. :)

I can't find it. Is it in the movie room of the que? Anyone know it's location?

Thanks!

Don't have anything to but I love hearing about the little things that other people have found.

Its above the projector of the movie room and its really hard to see. I've known people to bring flashlights with them to see it and sometimes I've actually seen it lit, as if there's a light up there that can be turned on. Otherwise, all you really see is a sort of round grayish blob.

As for the gold spike being the exact center of the original DL, its been published in books that this is just an urban legend, so I don't know if its actually true or not. Supposedly its just a survey marker and there are others throughout the park. I haven't taken time to look for the others though.

Another thing to notice, as you change lands, the ground and the trash cans will change to match the area you are in. In Frontierland you will see horseshoe prints in the groun and the trash cans look like they are made of wood.

Another great Disneyland Secrets thread...decided to bump up, so others could enjoy it too. :thumbsup2

I actually saw that it is the geographical center of DL (before toontown) on a documentary on tv. Not sure where they got their info though...

as i explained in the other thread on secrets, it never was the center, nor is it now.

look at the map from 1955

the castle itself is clearly towards the back of the park. not near the center.

and an aerial view:

i've taken maps and aerial views (multiple) and determined the center point and as others will cite, the middle of the park was the middle of the hub.
