We are going to Chicago in a couple weeks for spring break. The last time we were there the Lego Discovery Center was not open. Wondering what your opinion is of it. My boys are 13 and 10, and I have a 9 year old daughter.

I also used to see coupons for it alot in the lego magazines, but I now that I need them, I haven't seen them. Does anyone have any coupons we could use, or know where I could find some.

Any other suggestions for Chicago. On my children's list is the Museum of Science and Industry, American Girl Place and maybe the Art Institute. They saw the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum on the last visit and were not really interested in going back. I think they wanted to go up in the Sears Tower, since they did Hancock last time. Any specials on tickets for that?

Also, if anyone has recommendations about parking/driving I'd appreciate it. We are staying with friends in Wheaton. I thought we could take the train for the Michigan ave attractions, but don't know about public transportation to Science and Industry. Is there ample parking there? I seem to remember someone once posting about a free lot around there.

Finally, do they really dye the Chicago River green on St. Patrick's Day???

TIA!!

You can take a bus from the metra to get to the museum of science and industry.

Look at museums in your hometown - if you buy a membership you can usually get into other like-minded museums around the country for free.

Also, check out Chicago City Pass and a Go Card Chicago. They offer bundled discounts.

Have fun!!! Don't forget to go out for a deep dish pizza.

And yes, they dye the river green.

We went to the Legoland Discovery Center and Shedd Aquarium last year for a day trip during spring break. The Shedd was unbelievably packed and we also have no interest in going back.
In comparison, Leogland was great. My DS was 11 at the time. I had read on their site the best time to go was after 2pm and that was true. It was not crowded at all and we were able to take our time and enjoy all the displays.
The first floor is what we really enjoyed - awesome displays, fun ride through, and amazing statues. We took tons of pictures. The upsatirs was ok, but I think my DS would have enjoyed that more if he had been younger. It was still absolutely worth the trip.
Legoland is in Schaumburg, not Chicago, just so you know.

We bought our tickets online at their site - here is a link:

We bought the discounted standard tickets online. They do sell even lower price ones for mid-week after 3pm, but I wasn't sure what time we would get there - we got there by 2pm.

You can let your kids know, the store is not that great, but still fun to look around in.

Enjoy your trip!

Www.oakleesguide.com has coupons for Legoland...

It depends on your expectations on how people are liking it... Some were disappointed when they went because they thought it would be like the one in CA...

The river will actually be dyed green on Sat. March 12 and the parade is that day too... You can get info about it at www.chicagostpatsparade.com

Gameworks or Dave & Busters might be fun for the kids if they like to play games. Magiquest at yorktown in Lombard has been fun for kids in that age group too.

Medieval Times is fun too

There are coupons for some of these activities in the Oaklee's guide tool

OP posting again.

Thanks for all your help.

The Lego coupon I was looking for was a buy an adult admission, get a child's admission free. They were in the Lego Brickmaster magazines. I purged the house really well after Christmas and got rid of all the Brickmaster magazines. I did find a few coupons on ebay that I could purchase, I was just hoping maybe someone would have one or two around. Or that someone came across one in another source. (apparently there were coupons in some Lego sets as well)

I appreciate all the responses about what to do in Chicago. We saw a lot a few years ago, so this is a nice trip to just fill in what we missed and repeat our favorites.

There is one in the oak lee's guide that is $14 for you and your child. M-f

It looks like they had one for the session pass too but keep scrolling... That actually is slightly better than the buy 1/ get 1 if I remember correctly...
