Looking For Control Freaks & Worry Warts too........ Part 2

Hi girls! Just a fly by - hope everyone had a good day - I was so busy, I didn't have time to pee! ;) I spent a good part of the day in between getting the baby out of trouble and keeping her brother from hurting her - setting up my TIVO again! I'm watching lost now, and TIVOing it for DH cuz he's asleep already - 10pm here! Good Night! I'll catch up later!

DD10 gets so scared, and is in our bedroom in a flash! The hail and potential tornadoes are what is awful. It is scary! I don't mind the rain, but the possible destruction. It's hard to tell them not to worry when you are worried yourself!

I'm the same way. I am fascinated by weather, but when the tornadoes start rolling in, I'll be the first one under the bed! :rotfl2:

Sure, drop the weather, make the other ticker smaller, it will work. Good for you abou thte Y! Good plan. I finally found a non-food motivator. If I can drop 12 lbs by my Houston trip, I'm going to buy myself a nice, fluffy spa robe there. That is something I have always wanted, but would never spend the $$ for. It is a good carrot, but I'm anxious about my goal :scared1:

Tornadoes are awful here too. I always hate the spring weather. It is the unknown that is scary.

I'll check it out next...

Debbie - sometimes I think that when DH is traveling, life is actually easier. He seems to mess up so much, and the help I get from him is minor, but he thinks he has moved mountains!

Well - the condo is booked   So I may be putting up a beach ticker soon! 5 nights too. :rotfl2: DH was like - WTH?!? I followed Kara and let everything be his idea, so he just realized today that he said to do it 5 nights and the Zoo trip too :rotfl2:. The Zoo trip is nothing, we'll just tag along on his business trip and go on Sat. The beach trip will be nice. I just may throw his blackberry in the ocean! :cool1:

Yea!!! Another ticker, and to think that DH came up with the idea all by himself!!! :rotfl2:

I've been reading more on this BPA - you have to check bottles, breast pumps, sippies, and pacifiers too.

We were lucky on all but the paci. I'm going to try to switch her over, but at a year old, this might be a fight! :scared1:

What????

OK, not a lot of time to post but let me suffice it to say that my trip to the hair salon last night sucked!!! DD couldn't even get her hair cut. Why? Because she has head lice!!! :scared1: I can't believe I made it 7 years before she got it. Everyone has always told me it's inevitable between daycare and school, but I thought we were going to get by. Nope. And here's the bad part. She's been scratching her head for a couple of weeks. DH and I have bothe looked at it and never saw anything - the DR even checked her head last week and HE didn't see anything either!!! Thank goodness our stylist is really cool and has been through this before. She told me everything to do to get the house in order. So I missed Survivor because I was doing the shampoo and comb thingy to DD, then I couldn't concentrate on Lost so I'll watch it later today.

I mean, everything she has slept with over the past two weeks is in a black garbage bag, tied up tight, out in the garage, so are all the couch pillows, etc. Plus, I had to strip her bed and the bed in the guest room and wash everything!!! Then I had to spray her mattress and pillows, carpets, etc! And I slept with her on Tuesday night! :scared1: But I seem to be in the clear. Of course I keep thinking my head itches now.

I'll check in later......

Yeah - but how did your hair come out?

No, seriously, that sucks! Have never had to deal with the lice issue - thank god! What a PITA! Hope it gets cleared up soon. Did you have to keep DD home from school?

You missed a great episode of Lost - still not entirely sure of what's going on (I need to check out some websites to have someone explain it all to me)!

Happy Friday everybody! (the last day of school vacation for us.:sad1: )

Kara ,
I'm puzzled - your head lice must be more tenacious than ours - we are told they die when not near their food source - they need to feed and be at body temperature.... so we have to just keep up the combing and conditioner on the hair - we used something called Hedrin - fantastic stuff - NO pesticides, just coats the louse and eggs and they die. you put it on the hair - leave overnight shampoo out and repeat after 7 days .

Both my girls have had one "infestation" well one or 2 lice and a few eggs - we check hair weekly as part of our routine... it is quite horrifying seeing the little blighters...

Over here we have to keep them off school till you can't see any live ones... - so comb comb comb....

Good luck..
Tessa

Kara - so sorry to hear about the lice! I got it from a sleepover when about your DD age. My mom, being the sweetheart that she was, decided that there was no need to use the lice treatment - the stuff they "dipped" the dogs in to kill fleas and lice would do. :rolleyes1 I still remember that smell. :scared: But I think she just stripped my bed and all was okay. So I think you are taking lots of precautions and your house should be fine! But still, :scared: I guess you didn't get to play with the cart either, huh?

BPA - Bisphenol A. The recent research is showing that in mice it is toxic, and they believe it is to children too. Basically it is an additive to plastics that makes them clear. There are now major retailers coming out (Toys R Us and I think the other was WalMart) who say they will no longer carry products containing BPA as of 2009. The study showed premature puberty and childhood cancers. So, I'm going to change her Paci just to be safe. There are a lot of good lists out there as far as what sippies, bottles, paci's are good, and which are considered not as safe. I use Playtex sippies and the Gerber Giggles and Grins, both are fine. The MAM pacis aren't. Always something isn't it?

Laura - went online to see about the deduction thing. The best I could understand you have to donate above the standard deduction to be able to itemize. So, without the sale of a home, I am thinking it would make a flip since you would have to get above - what $10?

Tammie - I'm glad you had fun with the little ones. Sounds like a great time.

Everyone else - quick hi! I'm on my way to the store to buy 1000 new pacis and hope she doesn't notice the switch. :scared: If she does, it could be VERY UGLY around here! :scared1:

I'm sorry but I had to laugh at this!!!! I bought a flea comb from Petsmart for DD so it's kinda the same thing! :rotfl2:

Yes, the school called a little bit ago and the nurse was so nice when I picked up DD. She said they have a "no nit" policy and that DD still had some nits in her hair, but they are all dead. So the treatment worked last night, and there are no live creatures in there anymore. I only found 4 last night when I was treating her. But the nits look like they are all over the place! So she told me to put baby oil in her hair and comb out, that makes it easier for the nits to come "unglued" from her hair. Then wash with Dawn dish detergent to get the oil out!!!

Yeah - but how did your hair come out?

I'm not even sure because I didn't want her to take the time to style it last night and I quickly styled it this morning!!! But the color looks good! I'll have her "tweak" it when I go back to get DD's hair cut.

No, seriously, that sucks! Have never had to deal with the lice issue - thank god! What a PITA! Hope it gets cleared up soon. Did you have to keep DD home from school?

I can't believe this happened now - we're going to have to do the followup treatment next Friday, right before we leave for WDW. It totally sucks!

I guess the only "good" thing is that I'm playing hooky from work today. I'm actually taking a sick day and after I treat DD this morning we are going to play all day, tool around the neighborhood on the golf cart, probably go to the pool. But there's no point in her sitting around here by herself while I work. Poor kid isn't even sick but she can't go to school until this is all gone. What a pain!!!!

My head itches!!! i am so sorry to hear that this has happened right before disney. I can remember the smell of Rit. I think my mom still has a bottle under her sink in case of emergencies. LOL! it will clear up fast now that you have caught it.

Yes itemizing is the only way that you will be able to use this deduction. I use turbo tax to do my taxes. We're members of Costco so I get it for a steal every year. It has a special section on charitable deductions so it calculates everything for me. I've attached the info that I used to help me determine what Fair Market Value is and if I needed an appraisal or not. I know that you have a lot of items. It might be more of a pain than putting the stuff in the garage sale. Wish I could help more.

Get out!!!! Are you serious? It isn't there right now. C'mon, are you messin with me???

Well, I put baby oil all through her hair and sectioned it off and used the flea comb to brush - found a few nits but with the oil it was hard to see. Then washed it with Dawn but it's still really oily. I'll wait until it's completely dry and then check again, and comb, and check again, and comb, etc....

Took DD AND the dog for a ride in the golf cart! I'm not sure who enjoyed it more!!! He had a blast!

I got the great idea to pack up all of the winter gear and store it away. I've gotten so far as getting it out of the closet but I just can't bring myself to pack it away. I have lost all ambition for the day. It's cold and yucky outside and I just want to crawl back into bed.

Sorry - I have just spent 40 minutes replying to all of you, and it's gone! When I hit the back button or the reply, it brings back all of the quotes with no replies. I just can't stay in bed an reply again!

Debbie - you need a spa treatment! :goodvibes
Tessa - lovin your TR!
Erin - looking forward to your pics!
Kara-
Laura - new swimsuit - :scared1:

Everyone - be very careful what you say on the DIS or we won't be allowed to be friends anymore! :grouphug:

I have noticed this before - I think it is automatically done through "key words" in the system. It would be a fun game to play during drunk posting! Throw out random words in our postings, and watch what pops up on top!!!! :lmao:

Okay, gotta go! The kids are cleaning the house at 8am this morning, cuz I had a long discussion with them last night about the messes here. I'm sure they are pouting - want me to feel sorry for them. According to DDIL she cleans all the time, I just can't see it - that's why the baby's socks are dirty! ;)

Have a great day everyone!

Thanks for the link. I will check it out. I meant I thought that you couldn't get above the standard deduction without the sale of a home or something. I think it is like $10K or something isn't it for married filing joint? There is no way we can get our donations above that.

:scared1: I didn't see it. Mine had mothers day chocolates.

Well, I put baby oil all through her hair !
Glad you are playing hookie today. My BF in College's mom was a hair dresser. She put vasaline in her hair to try to get it to be not so dry :rotfl2: It was so gross! Her mom had her put baby powder in it until it got back to normal after a few days. You might want to try that :confused3

I might not be joining you all for drunk posting tonight. I could do it Sat night though for anyone who wants to do it then! My DSB is in town today. He just got back last year from 2 yrs in Iraq. We haven't had a long time to sit down together and talk so it will be nice. He is thinking of staying here tonight, so if he does, I doubt I will be posting. BUT SAT - anyone want to, I'm there!

Have a good day. I"m trying to get DD to nap. She is so ticked about the paci thing. I finally gave in and gave her the MAM one. She is still good and mad about me trying the switcheroo. :sad2:

I have a chocolate add and travel insurance add at the top of mine.

Let's see if we can make it change...

Tour Guide Mike, Tour Guide Mike, Tour Guide Mike.... lol

Let's see if they put the Tour Guide Mike ad back up. I noticed it there one time but can't remember if we were talking about him at the time or not.

Great news!!! Something nice to come home to after Disney!!! That will be the ONLY good thing about coming home! :sad2:

OK, as of today the highs while we are in Disney are in the low 80's - yesterday it was showing 90 for those days!!! :confused3

Testing again.... douche! :rotfl2:

I'm with you now. I think you might be talking about the 2% rule. I know you cannot claim health care or work expenses, ect. unless they exceed 2% of your adjusted gross income. Charitable deductions are not held to that standard, same with your mortgage interest, taxes on personal property (ie car tabs) and property tax.

Do you do your own taxes? There are number of at home software packages that are great for helping you thru all sorts of tricky questions.

I am a nerd. I know. I worked for a year in a CPA's office. I have really bounced around since college. I was Creative Memories for 2 yrs. Then I was at Fingerhut for 4 yrs, had DD, then went to Wells Fargo for 2, left to work at the garden center, went back in the fall to work at CPA's office, left to work at garden center, then back to work at Select Comfort. I have more useless information stored in my head than I'd rather admit.
