I'm thinking about buying one of these for the family and I'm in the research stage. My dh trusts almost anything that is said on these boards, so I thought I'd come to you for opinions. We have no dental insurance, so we longer go to the dentist on a regular basis...I've heard and read that the Sonicare will help us.

If you own a Sonicare toothbrush, would you please answer the following questions?

1. What model do you own?
2. Do your children use it? If so, how old are they?
3. Is it worth the money? Why or why not?
4. Is it rough on your gums?
5. If you were convincing your spouse, what would you say to win him over?
6. Any other comments pro/con are welcomed and encouraged!

Thanks so much for your help!

Carmen

I am the only one in my family that has one. It is the basic Sonicare toothbrush and I love it. The main reason that I bought it was b/c my gums bled pretty badly, and one part of my gum was starting to recede above one tooth (Gross, huh?) My dental hygienist told me that it was good for gums, so I bought one from Amazon w/some GC's I had.

My gums have improved 100% and even the part of my gum that was started to recede looks normal now. Makes your teeth feel so clean! I would highly recommend one.

I have been using Sonicare for years now and just love it. It makes your whole mouth feel so clean. Just make sure you don't press down too hard when using it or you can actually damage your gums.

We love Sonicare - highly recommended by our dentist.

1. Not sure of the model - but have had it for at least 5 years.
2. No kids, can't help there.
3. Worth every penny
4. Not at all rough on the gums. Has improved ours a hundred-fold since using it. Your teeth feel much much cleaner too.
5. Purchasing it now could save you hundreds or thousands in dental bills later. They are simple to use. If all else fails tell him - hey it's a power tool for the bathroom how - how can you pass that up!!

I had juvenile periodontitis and suffered major periodontal damage which required 3 (count 'em, 3) bone grafts and multiple other periodontal procedures you don't really want to know about. We used the Braun system for years until my periodontist suggested the Sonicare.

Absolutely the *BEST* !! What a difference -- when we last took battery Brauns on vacation, my DD 10yo couldn't wait to use her Sonicare when we got home. (!!!) She has used the Elite Sonicare for ?? 2years and is more able to manuver that model in her mouth with her smaller hand. DH and I each have an older model (name??) which I won't replace until one goes up. We have 2 because we prefer not having to change the heads due to laziness AND firmly believe there's less passing around of germies when somebody's getting sick.

Like any dental appliance, manual or electric, you could potentially cause damage if you incorrectly use the appliance. Used correctly, the Sonicare is just guided by your hand and the brush does all the work. DO NOT put any pressure on the handle; this could do some damage to gums. Once you use it for 2 weeks, you'll never be able to brush your teeth any other way ! I can now go 4 - 6 months between maintenance cleanings due to the Sonicare, which is BIG for me !

I have the Cyber Sonic and it's just like the Sonicare brush. It is totally worth every penny. It was given to me as a Christmas gift. I have very sensitive gums and after I started using the Cyber Sonic the dentist told me that she could see an incredible improvment in my gums...that's all the proof I need right there.

As for kids, my 6 year old can use it but not very good...it's too ticklish for her so when she tries to use it she ends up laughing too much and not brushing her teeth.

Mine also came with a flossing attachment and a tounge cleaner. The tounge cleaner works pretty good, but the flossing attachment is a bit too complicated.

Our orthodontist gives the kids a sonicare when they get their braces on...we love it.

We have a Sonicare (don't know the model #) and love it.
DH, DD(3) and DS(4) all use it too. The brushes are very gentle and makes your whole mouth feel very clean. It tickles your mouth and gums the first few times you use it but then you get use to it.

We also have the Braun Oral B- spinning toothbrush. I like it too but the Sonicare is much better!

We have a very old sonicare model and love it. My dentist recommended it because I was showing signs of needing periodontal surgery. The toothbrush postponed the surgery for two years and has kept me from needing any more. We have no dental insurance so keeping the teeth and gums healthy is important. The sonicare is well worth the investment.

Another thumbs-up vote from me! We've had our Sonicare for 8, 9, maybe 10 years...same one! At first, DS didn't use it since his dentist advised against it, but he's been using it now for over 2 years (he's 16 now). 6yo DD does not use it yet.

I also agree that at first, it tickles. :p

I buy the replacement heads, in a 2-pack, from Costco.

Here's to :teeth:!!
