Im renting points from a DVC and will be staying at BVC :lovestruc. I just wanted to make sure that since we are renting then do we get the benefit of free wifi? I'm pretty sure I read that DVC members get free wifi and I assumed that since I was renting points we would get that benefit?!?! Anyway, I just wanted to check because if not I want to budget to pay for it for our 9 days (:scared1: its like an additional $90)

Thanks!!

No wifi. Everything is wired in the room. You may or may not get it free. In order to get the perk, you need to show a membership card. If they charge you, you will have no option but to pay. Renters are not entiled to member perks, but they do get them form time to time with just the KTTW card with DVC member on the card.

As mentioned, you may or may not get it. Everyday you log on you get a screen that tells you that the cost is 9.95 for the day. On the same page it says "this fee does not apply to DVC MEMBERS", then you click accept and you are signed on the for day. When you click OK, you are accepting the terms of a contract. I've never read the contract, so can't comment and I've always known that if there's a problem with it on my bill I can go to the desk with my blue membership card in hand and have the charge removed. Not an option for a renter. So you may or may not get it.

BTW -- you have to agree to these terms everyday since the charge is for a 24 hour period.

Internet access is not charged on a per-night basis, it is charged for each 24 hour period so it isn't necessarily going to cost you $90. Say for example you connect at 8pm on Monday, your access is good until 8pm Tuesday. If you make sure you are logged off by 8pm on Tuesday you don't get charged again until you log on again. So by planning when you are going to use the internet, you can avoid being charged every day. Does that make sense?

First to clarify, there is NO WIFI. There is a LAN cable in the closet, and a port somewhere in the resort you must plug into. The only way to have wifi would be to bring your own router. (which I have read about folks doing)

We have exchanged in through RCI and it is $9.95 for a 24 hr period. Unless you are a DVC member, you will be charged that amount (as far as I know, renting from a DVC member does not count). Like someone else said though, we were able to plan and only pay for a couple days.

As a warning--- our first trip we thought we would save some money and I found a free dial up service... problem is, what I thought was a local orlando number turned out to be long distance, so after paying the long distance charge and the disney surcharge, I would have been better off paying the $9.95 for high speed. NEVER AGAIN, WILL I TRY DIAL UP FROM A DISNEY RESORT.

also, you can get to disney's photopass for free from the rooms. If you just want to check photopass photos, it won't cost you anything.

Learn something new every day!

yes, I thought it was neat too. When you open up your browser, there will be a link for it in the left under a heading about it being free. The time before last we could also get to disney's website, but this past trip, photo pass was the only one available for free from AKV.

So for the technically challanged Canuck here, do I just attach the cable and that's it:confused3 Nothing else to do? I don't need any numbers etc from my ISP?

You should be able to attach the cable (they provided an ethernet cable in the closet at BLT when I was there last weekend) and open up your internet browser of choice. You'll get a screen that says you have to pay $9.95 per 24 hours (like the previous poster said) but that fee does not apply to DVC guests.

Note, in a 1 Bedroom the internet hook up is in the main bedroom at the desk and not the common area of the room.

There was a note that their was WIFI available in the lobby area of the Contemporary but I did not check it out.

Correct, just connect the ethernet cable and launch your preferred browser. The supplied ethernet cable is only about 5 feet in length. If you are not bringing your own wireless router, you may want to consider bringing a longer ethernet cable.

Now there's a thought for my next trip - bring a wireless router down with me. And I happen to have a spare router laying around.

THANKS FOR THE TIP erionm!!!!!

AKV here I come, and I'm bringing some wireless with me in December!:woohoo:

Great! Thanks for all the info! For some reason I thought it was available to renters since I was using the DVCers points but thank you all for clearing that up. It sounds like it might be free but the best plan is to lay some $$ aside in case its not........unless I go down to the lobby and use it there!!

Thanks for the info, Bill......I dont mind sitting in the lobby catching up on the computer for a bit!

Before I joined DVC in 2008, I was given points from a friend who is a DVC member. I was treated just like a DVC member and was able to use the internet with no charge. There was a disclaimer when you logged in saying there would be a $9.95 charge per day except for DVC member. I did not have to pay it. I don't think this policy has changed but you may want to call to double check. Good luck!

On one of our last two trips to WDW, we stayed on DVC points that we own. When we went to check out, we had been charged for internet use. We had to show our DVC member card to get it removed.

This is a different situation. If you were *given* the stay, you are treated as a "guest of member" and do get Internet comped. If you *rented* the stay, you are not supposed to be.

Naturally, some landlords "forget" to identify their renters as such. But, you can't count on it.
