Our past several trips to WDW we have taken our Graco DuoRider. It's a lightweight side by side, but it's getting old and the seats often recline on a whim. Based on what I've been reading here, lots of people seem to like the Maclarens.

We may end up renting for future trips, but I'm going to start looking for a good deal on a used Mac. I'm wondering...do these things fold up accordion style (squeezing together left to right) or do they fold in half top to bottom(this is what our Graco does)? I'm just wondering how easy they are to fit in the back of a minivan...

Also, I'm looking for one that has a nice sturdy footrest. Are the Mac's all made of solid plastic or do they have that flexible/rubber strap type (my kids will wear that down and grind into the wheels).

Thanks for your input.

I can only speak from our experience with the Maclaren Volo. It folds down very compact. The footrest isn't hard plastic, but it is pretty sturdy. Check out the Maclaren website. You can see how each model folds down I believe.

ETA: Okay, I checked the website and you can only see how the single stroller folds down, but it does state that all Maclarens have the compact umbrella fold.

My Volo folds "vertical" or handles to front wheels. Does that make sense? Like a regular umbrella stroller. Even came with a carrying strap. The "foot rest" is tough, but not hard. There is some flexibility. Mine also had a pretty nice basket underneathe that we found useful.

We bought ours specifically for our trip to WDW when DD was 4 1/2 and it was a lifesaver (we are also very tall and I didn't want to hunch over the stroller the whole time). I got mine on ebay for around $60 with free shipping (this was 2 years ago) and my model was a 2006, but it was brand new.

I still have the stroller....it was a great find and I can't part with it even though we don't use it anymore!

Definitely buy used! I bought a volo on craigslist for $20 and a Techno at a garage sale for $35. They both fold 'umbrella stroller style' and are very compact. We got them specifically for Disney but I've been using them a lot at home.

The footrest is the flexible plastic, but my 3 yo likes to sit on it to talk to his sister and it is thus far no worse for the wear (a couple of months in).
