WE PURCHASED direct on Saturday to lock in 50 point minimum. We purchased BRV. We purchased this small contract w the intention of buying a larger resale one soon after. Before purchasing this we really thought AKL would be our resale purchase. However the more that I think about it I’m starting to see BRV as the winner. It’s proximity to MK being one sell. One of the things I saw as a negative (exp year) I now kind of see as a positive that’s 15 years less of dues than AKL and our kids will be 27 by then! It’s not like they will be tiny! I’m interested in hearing people’s thoughts.

EDIT TO ADD: what resale sites do you recommend? Any tips on any of them? My goal is to know what we want so we can jump on it if we see it!
Thank you for any guidance :)

Your kids might not like to vacation at Disney.
Select the best UY for your vacation patterns.
Buy where you love to stay.
Book at 11 months.
Buy resale if you can.
If you buy additional contracts, keep the same UY and names on deeds.
DVD/DVC marketing can change the perks at any time.
Perks and policies tend to change when management changes.
Expect to spend more on Disney vacations after you buy DVC.

Frankly, I would say it may depend on the UY you are looking for. You should keep the same UY, and matching UY with a reissue after direct is generally harder.

For instance, 33% of AKV is December UY, versus only 7% as April or September. BRV is a little more evenly distributed, but 24% of BRV is August. Matching March at BRV is going to be a bigger challenge.

This is why most people have recommended resale before direct, although the recent changes threw that into mayhem.

Thank you. Yes unfortunately that ruined us. If we decide to buy at AKL we will probably mostly use our 50 at BRV to rent or just for myself and hubby to get away together. Therefore I think we’d be OK aith a different use year? For the most part we wouldn’t be combining them (I think). Of course our use year is April ugh! If we buy at AKL we would buy enough to where combining wouldn’t be necessary (200 pts) traveling every 1.5 years

We bought 25 at BRV a week before the announcement. I was fairly ignorant about how different use years worked; (but with only 25 I think I will manage ok). Then the announcement came out, and I was GLAD I goofed and bought the 25 at BRV, even with the possible different use year challenge. Well our use year at the time was JUNE, at BCV. We sold BCV in one day, I think partially because I have yet to see another BCV June contract for resale, and the buyer was a current DVC member. (NOT saying it is impossible, just saying they seem to be less common). Anyway, I was left with 25 June BRV points. I have yet to see a June BRV contract, and decided price was more important, and we are currently in ROFR for an August 200 point contract (loaded with all 2017 points).

I do WISH they were all the same use year, but I will use here and there and it is fine.
