I have only purchased travel insurance once, and that was for a cruise. We have an upcoming DVC trip in December and I'm wondering if we should buy the insurance. Mainly thinking of bad winter weather, and possibility of illness.

I've tried reading thru the several pages of policy info, but I had trouble absorbing/understanding all of what it says. I'm hoping that there are people here on the Dis that can explain things for me. Has anybody had experience with the insurance? Does it cover everyone in our family that will be going? Grown children, grand-children, etc?

As I understand it, the cost is $99 per use year. So for this Dec trip, we'll be using 2018 points that were banked, as well as some 2019 points. So I would pay $99 x 2. We also have another trip in June. This trip will also be using 2018 and 2019 points. Maybe some borrowed 2020 points. Will the insurance purchased now for our December trip also cover the 2018 and 2019 points used for our June trip?

I would love to hear pros and cons concerning the travel insurance.

Thanks for your help!

Ditto, I too would like to hear pros and cons of Disney Vacation Club‘s comprehensive travel insurance through Travelex Insurance Services.

It is going to cost more and cover less than buying travel insurance from a 3rd party. You can do a quick search online to find many travel insurance brokers. You are paying more for convenience.

That being said I'm not too familiar with this "per use year". I thought I remembered DVC travel insurance having a per point cost.

I do think travel insurance is well worth it in some circumstances.

I purchased the travel insurance for my 2019 UY. Rates are per UY (not points), so buying the 2019 travel insurance theoretically covers both my 2019 CCV points and my 2019 BWV points because they are on the same UY. I do have an upcoming trip that is using 3 UY and will have to purchase additional insurance for each of the other UYs that are not 2019 in order for the trip to be fully covered. Luckily I have until 10 days before the trip to buy that!

I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure what is covered with this insurance either. MS made it sound like anybody in my party whose travel was affected (including for snowstorms in the northeast) would be eligible for compensation. Hoping we won't need to use it - our travel is in January.

I would be interested to hear from anyone that has actually filed a claim!

When I asked MS about it, they basically just read parts of what is on the DVC website, and really didn't know anything more than what is said there. The legal mumbo jumbo is so confusing! Is there an insurance expert out there that can decipher it for us? Or as previously mentioned, someone that unfortunately had to file a claim and can tell us their experience.

Also, I'm guessing that the per UY cost is also per membership. If we have more than 1 membership, do we have to buy insurance for each membership's UY that we are using? Or will the insurance cover all memberships under one UY?

Thanks for the help!

Only part I can answer is that I believe it’s per membership. I had a split stay booked with each part being on a different one of my memberships and was told it would be two charges.

Decided against it and figured I’d deal with holding points if something happened and we couldn’t go,
