We live outside of Boston and my parents are coming up next weekend to take our kids and my husband and I are going to go away, but I'm really stuck for ideas this time of year . My husband recommended coming into Boston, but I work here five days a week, so this City is not a big deal. Any suggestions. I'd honestly love a B & B, though I have never stayed in one, but I'm not sure if I want Newport, or up north or where. In regards to the B & B I'd love a fireplace and hot tub. :cool1:

How about North Conway area? Just north of there is Jackson, NH and there is Nestlenook farm. They have a skating pond and horse drawn carriage rides and lots of hot cocoa!

North Conway is a good thought.

Or the Cape. Lots of beautiful inns, and it's super quiet this time of year. Something I enjoy when I finally get alone time with my dh!

Mohegan Sun Casino, you can see if there is a show this weekend you'd like to see, shop, do a little gambling, have some good food, enjoy the pool/spa.

Newburyport.

Mystic, CT.

Portland, ME.

ETA: Don't forget to use Tripadvisor for suggestions for B&Bs/hotels and accurate reviews.

Depends on what you enjoy - foxwoods is a good idea. I would recommend Portsmouth, NH - You can park your car wherever you're staying and you can walk everywhere. Beautiful "city" which doesn't look like a city. I've gone up a few years with my sisters - great restaurants and bars, fantastic little stores, again all within walking distance - which is really nice when it comes to bars :rolleyes1

I don't recommend Cape Cod, because that's where I live and I'm completely BORED down here - I suppose if you're right in Falmouth or PTown there's stuff to do, but... save the Cape for Spring when it starts to thaw out. Lots of stuff closed now.

Our favorite place is church landing in meredith New Hampshire. It is nice and country and rooms have hot tubs and fireplaces. It also has a spa, indoor outdoor heated pool a bar, restaurant and great public sitting areas with fireplaces that you can sit at. I attached the link.

I really like Newport. Fun place to visit, lots to do.

I also second No. Conway area. Skiing, tubing, shopping, etc. Lots of great restaurants.

Have you thought about heading out to the Berkshires? There are some really nice places out that way. Deerfield, Amherst, North Adams and those locales.

Or maybe the Stowe area in VT?

Can I also suggest you pick up a copy of Yankee Magazine. They always have some nice places listed in there and a list of activities across New England. Things like crafts fairs, festivals, museum activities are all listed.

Portsmouth NH

No. Conway NH

Portland ME

Are all places I enjoy, also consider Williamstown MA if you like artsy things and the Williamstown Inn is not a B/B but amazing.

Oddly enough I also would recommend Sturbridge Village, and think there are some sweet inns around there too.

Freeport Me has the obvious, but also a state park for hiking and an Inn there that I have forgotten the name of, but they have an afternoon tea and a fire place!

I do like Boston, but have never worked there. Realized just before we moved away that it had been a long time since I had done the city as a tourist. It was enjoyable.

It truely depends on what your looking to do and what kind of budget. As others have suggested we here in Boston are lucky that we have the freedoms of both an adventurous weekend away or a rest and relaxation getaway all within 2 hours drive. Having said this I like others will go with foxwoods/mohegan sun or northconway.

Both foxwoods and mohegan sun are a blast but going on the weekend the prices will be very high. Staying off site will be much cheaper and include breakfast. The hotels I would recommend are the bellissmo grande (foxwoods) and microtell (mohegan).

North conway pretty much has anything you could want. If your looking for a b&b id recomennd the red elephant inn. Great inn keepers, good creative breakfast, and nice decorated room some with gas fireplaces.

We have enjoyed weekeds in Ogunquit Me. I ahve stayed at Meadowmere and like the amenities, a huge outdoor hottub, even in winter. Indoor Roman
Spa not as hot as hottub, they have a movie theater and a pub with a sing a long type singer weekend nights.
For fancier tastes there is also the Cliff House, my sisters tell me they have a fantastic spa, and georgeous views.
If the weather cooperates there is the cliff walk, so beautiful!
Best of all it is only 45 minutes from Boston.
Have fun with whatever you choose.

Several years ago, I gave my parents a gift to the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge -- they had a wonderful time. Not sure what goes on in the winter, though.

Have a wonderful time!

Newport, Rhode Island!!!!

You can book any type of accomondation from a B & B to a waterfront suite at the Marriott. The tourists are all gone, but the restaurants are still open. Check out that link and see what you think.
