Looking for a steam cleaner

My floors are a mess!! 2 kids, a dog and a cat with light brown carpet does not mix well. I really don't want to rent a cleaner, does anyone recommend a store bought one? TIA

I borrowed my sister's Hoover SteamVac last weekend, and I am amazed at how clean it got the carpet - and it's SO much cheaper than paying someone else to do it.

Another Hoover owner here. Just bought it last month. It is the V2 something or other. Works well and pretty easy to use. Figure it will pay for itself after 1.5 uses. I can't believe how much it cost me last time to have carpets cleaned.
