Looking for a non-interstate route...

...to Orlando.

I am in Tallahassee and travelling to Orlando next week. No, I am not going to Disney . Anyway, I am terrified to drive on the interstate, which is the most direct route. I would be taking I-10 to I-75.

Anyone know of a alternate route, like a backroads route? I have a map, but has anyone here actually done this? I can figure it out, but I worry as well that one of those roads will not be there or something. Should I just suck it upand take the interstate?

Try US 19. Its a 4 laned road that has very little traffic. I think we cut across at Dunellon but if you don't want to get on much interstate I think you can go farther down and cut over. Do a Mapquest to check on possible places. We live in Thomasville and find this route so much more relaxing. One thing to think about is potty breaks. Be sure to stop in Perry and I think its Cross City. Not a lot of potty/food chances in the small towns. If I can help some more send a pm. Its late now and my brain isn't working well enough to recall town names.

Sorry, I can't help. My husband calls me the human On Star, LOL.

When we travel to the St. Pete area from Maryland, we come down 301 from I10, but we only take that down to I75. Doesn't really help you, as it's a southeast traveling road and you need southwest.

Snuggles, I think that's the route I will take. On my map, 27 turns into 19, which I can take down to Crystal River, where I will get on Rt 44, and cut across to where I am going. I am actually going to Deland, which is not Orlando but close.
