Looking for a New Mattress

I made the mistake of buying a king-size mattress (Sealy) from Sam's Club some years ago for $500. I knew it was too cheap but that's all I had to spend. Does anyone know of a good firm mattress - it looks like you could spend up to $2800! I may go ahead and pay one off since my $500 mattress is sagging in the middle.

What are you looking for? Pillowtop, firm, extra firm, etc.

Go to a mattress store and literally try them all out!

I need a new one too and this is what I have been doing. I have also searched with consumer reports on them as well.

I don't know if you live anywhere near an Original Mattress Factory, but they can't be beat. They manufacture themselves and sell a quality product at a cheap price. A nice bonus is a lack of hype and sales pressure.

I was going to try and find a consumer magazine tomorrow - do they recommend a certain brand? I would like a firm mattress. What is the advantage of a pillowtop?

Sigh. I'm also in the market for a new bed/mattress, but I have special needs. (Husband had 5-way bypass in January & still experiencing shoulder pain when lying flat - Dr. now recommend even "softer" mattress than our two year old Stearns & Foster pillowtop - so I'm investigating Comfortaire, Soft Comfort air beds and Craftmatic Adjustable).

I think i paid $800 - $900 for a queen size and I just love it. It has a pillow top and the best thing about it is that it never needs to be flipped!!! DBF likes to shake his legs and on a non Beauty Rest mattress (like at Disney), this drives me nuts!!! But you can't feel a thing in my bed. The only down side of the bed is the extra deep sheets that I need to buy for it because regular sheets just don't fit. Also because the bed is so tall on my bed frame, (my footboard can't be ssen over the matteres if I have it on the slats of the frame) I have it just sitting on the floor so it is at a height my furry son can get in to and it looks as thought that is how it is supposed to be. The furry son (Barkley) is convinced that it is his bead, however!!! Now the MICKEY blanket with his name embroidered into it is a differant story!!! Sleep Number! I LOVE mine! They last TWICE AS LONG as a coil mattress and you can have it as firm as you want it. I get total support and no more back pain and pressure points. Nowadays, my aches are from things I do and not what I sleep on. I know this sounds like a commercial, but this was a great purchase for us. If you have a store nearby, go test one out. For the cost and durability, it's hard to beat.

Well, we have gone through 2 serta perfect sleepers that both broke and they wouldn't cover the warranty on one because there were cat claw marks on the mattress even though it was 8 inches lower in the middle than on the edges and we only had it 3 months (and paid 1,200 dollars for).

The other Serta we had for about 4 years and it sucked us both into the middle. I know I am never buying a serta again!!

My son has a beauty rest that I have to go steal if I am having back pain. I think we are going to go buy one of those next time.

I don't care for the foamy ones that shape to you. I had one at a hotel once and I felt icky all night, but I hear they hold up well.

I just got a new one, a Sealy. At the store where I purchased it they told me that the waranty was only good if I had a frame that had the middle bar too. She said that beds tend to sag in the middle because the frame is not supported in the middle. So far I love my new bed! I used to have a futon, and it was starting to be very difficult to sleep on as it was no longer nice and full like when you first buy them.

We had the middle bar and it just sagged around it.

Now it is on the floor, no frame cuz it sunk so low through the frame.

We REALLY need a new bed. But I keep spending all my money on vacations=).
