This being my first post I would like to say hello to everyone and thanks in advance for any help.

I will be visiting DW Sept 21 - Sept 28. This will be my 7 year old nieces first trip to DW. The rest of my family decided this would make for a nice family trip, so that we could share in her excitement. I will be staying at the ASM, however my parents and my brother and his family will be staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. I will be riding down in one of their vehicles and not have a car of my own. What is the easiest way to get to the Port Orleans (via DW transportation)? And about what can I expect, time wise if anyone knows? Lastly, I know one night I will be going to Kimonos by myself for Sushi, can anyone tell me how the Sushi is there?

Traveling between resorts is harder then traveling from resort to parks cause the buses don't go from one resort to another. Good thing is that port orleans has a boat that travels to the market place, so you can get a bus from ASM to the marketplace, then take the boat to port orleans.

1st, catch the Downtown Disney bus from your resort. Get off at DT Disney Marketplace and either hop on the POFQ bus or get on the boat that goes to POFQ. Bus would be quicker but try the boat at least once as it's a nice ride!

I would allow for at least 30 minutes for the bus option and as much as an hour for the boat as it doesn't depart as frequently.

take a bus to either Studio or Epcot - which ever comes first from your hotel - then transfer to a bus going to PO.

the FQ is the first bus stop.

can be as quick as 30 minutes - or as long as 90 minutes - just depends upon when the bus comes and goes....

if you just miss the bus going to the parks - then change to the other one....
hopefully your wait will only be around 10 minutes if that long.

once you are at the park you need to find the PO - bus - go to the front of the bus stop (near the park) to read the sign. also check each bus stop on the way to the front - I would hate for you to get off 12 and find after a very long walk that PO was 11....

the wait here can be a problem it should only be around 20 minutes - but lots of time it is longer.

I find that setting my stop watch when I arrive seems to bring the bus....of course I always forget to set it immediately so we are there about 10 minutes before I remember. the bus generally comes around 5 minutes after I start the stop watch.

remember that the buses start an hour to 90 minutes before the parks open....

so I would pick the park (if there is one) that is also having EMH the morning when you attempt this.

Unless the cost difference is huge you might consider staying at POR or POFQ in a standard view room. That way you are just a healthy walk away.

Otherwise the easiest way to get from resort to resort is to take the bus to a major bus stop for all resorts...hence spiceycat's suggestion of a bus to the Studios or EPCOT. Given your location I might also choose an Animal Kingdom bus. Studios & EPCOT are very close to the Port Orleans complex so the turnaround time for the busses should be consistent. Animal Kingdom is close to All Stars. In the late afternoon/evening I think I'd take a bus to the Marketplace and transfer to another bus. You can also get a boat from the Marketplace but that would be slower than using the bus.

Another option would be taxi. If you can't afford to take 90 minutes to get to another hotel you could get a cab ride for under $10. If you are only using the cab to meet your party once per day it would be less than shifting your room to the moderate resort.

As for Kimono's...is that in Swan/Dolphin? If so catching the bus to EPCOT, cutting through the park and exiting through the international gateway (assuming you have a hopper you've already used that day) is the quickest route. Alternatively you could catch the bus to the Studios and switch to the Boardwalk bus OR for a more scenic ride use the boat. Usually Swalphin is the first boat stop.
