Bear with me hear while i explain.
I am looking to move from a POS to DSLR, looking to buy whist i am holiday in orlando.

It needs to be fairly user friendly
But also something that will last (dont want to upgrade in the next year or 2)
Decent Zoom (unless you recommend an optional lens)
Price range $600-$1000

What if any do you recommend.

Thx

pretty much all "entry"- levels would be in price range. right now the one getting the best reviews all around ( as far as i have seen) is the canon xsi.. along with the 18-55 and 55-250 IS consumer type lenses you would be right around $1000 ( maybe a tad over, depending on where and when you buy). if you can before you get to the states i might go locally and hold whatever they have...guessing you want the better cost but at a least that way you will know what you don't want due to size, whatever. i am wondering since it usually is cheaper online if you can get it ordered and shipped to the orlando address ? (never tried but know they did great with eyeglasses i had to get shipped to a disney resort so they seemed pretty on the ball with that)

I agree with going an checking them out and see how they fit your hand and how you like the overall of the camera.

But being a Nikon fan from years back I would suggest looking at a Nikon D80

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-10-2MP-...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1217513192&sr=8-2
* 10.2-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for large, photo-quality prints
* 2.5-inch LCD display; power-up time of approximately 0.2 seconds
* RAW and JPEG capture; burst mode allows for capture of three frames per second for up to 100 pictures
* Image optimization functions and in-camera image retouching
* Includes 18-135mm AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens

999.99 with free shipping from Beach Camera

With the D80 you can enjoy using just about any Nikon lens made in the last 20 years in addition to the newer models that are out due to this model having the focusing gear in camera something the D40 and D60 do not.

This is just my not so humble opinion so take it for what its worth :goodvibes

Beach & Buydig do not ship to hotels or out of the US.

That I did not know!

I called J&R Music and Computer World who was the next one with free shipping and they said if Amazon would approve it they would ship it and gave me Amazons # 1-800-201-7575 and a suggestion if there is some issue with a CC you can pay with Paypal instead.

Or you can buy local there was a thread where one fellow listed some local shops in Orlando but I couldn't find it.

Best of luck to you with whichever model you choose to go with! :thumbsup2

My understanding is that they will only ship to residences or businesses that are the actual customer. I think it has to do with their return and refund policy. They require a signature on everything if I remember correctly. I know I had to sign for a $20 adapter a few years back. This is why I always verify what is actually in the box with them before the delivery guy even leaves. Their policy is pretty much once you signed for it you agree that it was all there and in good condition. They are very reputable, but they are still not B&H when it comes to the customer service.

In case anyone reading does not know, Beach and Buydig are the same company.

What about This

Sony DSLR-A350

OR am i better sticking with Nikon ,Olympus etc

I would put it this way. Any DSLR can get the job done and you could be happy with the results. The difficult part about picking one is to find one that feels good to you. Some of them felt downright awkward in my hands. You also need to make sure the one you pick has the right upgrades you might want to add.

Unless you are going to save a ton of money, I suggest going ahead and buying it now so that you have time to practice. Being outside the US, you have one choice that we hardly ever see in the US. It is the Samsung. They are basically the same thing as a Pentax, but with different software running the camera. They use all the Pentax lenses and other accessories. I have a Pentax K100D that I have been very happy with.

The Sony cameras are all quite nice. I have the A700 and just love it. The A350 has a live view screen and so does the A300. The main difference between the two is that A300 has 10.2 megapixels and will shoot at a slightly faster frames per second. The A350 has 14.2 megapixels and will be a bit more expensive. If you aren't requiring live view then the Sony A200 might be a very nice options. Packages of that with an 18-70mm lens are $499. And the nice thing about Sony's are that they bought Minolta and any of the Minolta autofocus lenses will work on the Sony.
