can anyone help?

I want to make meatballs in brown gravy but the last (wonderful) gravy I bought was at Sam's Club in a bag & they haven't had it for a while now. I have those frozen meatballs from Sam's that I'd like to make with brown gravy & can't find a recipe.

I know it's probably pretty simple but I've never made a brown gravy before... :o

Thanks!

You might like this recipe. Substitute meatballs for the lamb and beef stock for the lamb stock.

Swedish Lamb in Dill Sauce
Epcot Center Food & Wine Festival

2 pounds lamb cubed
1 teaspoon salt
8 each white peppercorns
1 medium onion diced
1 medium leek thinly sliced
2 medium carrots diced
1/2 medium celery root diced
1/2 ounce fresh dill
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
2 cups lamb stock
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon white vinegar
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 large egg yolks
salt and pepper to taste
3 tablespoons dill finely chopped

Place meat, 1 teaspoon salt, and peppercorns into a casserole dish. Add
enough water to cover and bring to a boil. Skim off. Add vegetables and 1/2
ounce dill. Simmer for 30 minutes or until tender. Strain and boil stock down.
Melt butter in a sauce pan. Stir in flour until smooth. Gradually add
stock and bring to a boil. Boil three to five minutes. Add lemon juice,
vinegar and sugar. In a separate pan, cook cream and egg yolks over low heat
until thickened (do not boil). Remove from heat. Add salt, pepper and 3
tablespoons dill. Stir mixture into the sauce and serve with the lamb.

Thanks for your response Margie J. I was afraid that my post got lost somewhere in cyber space since no one had responded!! I guess I'm not the only one that doesn't know how to make a plain brown gravy!!

When I use frozen meatballs I don't feel like I get enough pan juices to make a tasty brown gravy. I usually just brown the meatballs and add a can of mushroom soup!

Maybe you could start with a little oil (if you don't have enough fat from browning the meatballs), add flour to make a roux, and then add beef boullion?

Disy ~ now that's the kind of recipe I was hoping for!!! EASY!! Tell me, do you also add some water to that? Perhaps 1/2 can or something??

Sounds yummy!! Thanks!

Yes, definately some water - 1/2 can sounds right. And maybe a dash of pepper, worstershire sauce...whatever.

I do have to add that even though it's such an obviously easy dish, I did have some impromtu guests say "you didn't have to go to so much trouble!" when I served this once. I said "please stay for supper", ripped open a "bag" of salad, boiled some noodles, pulled out the Costco meatballs and a can of soup - 15 minutes later, dinner.

Well, I did it! I dumped about 2 lbs of meatballs in a crockpot & added 1 can of cream of mushroom soup & 1 can of cream of celery (since those were the only 2 I had) & 1 can of beef broth & let it simmer all day. A few minutes before serving, I added a can of mushrooms. I can't tell you how tasty it was!

Thanks so much for the great idea DisyKat....my DH LOVED it!!
