Tampa is not too far; last time I went from TPA to the Marriott World Center it was 75 miles, so most of WDW would be under 80 miles. There is ongoing construction on I-4 South (West) of WDW.

I would not recommend West Palm or anything else in SE Florida. Thursday I drove home from Fort Lauderdale and it took me over four hours (and I have a transponder so I get deep discount on Turnpike tolls).

I would suggest checking www.orbitz.com daily for flight information. Also check the discount airlines (that are not on Orbitz) daily. Then grab what you can.

You can sign up at Travelocity - pick the various flight routes you're interested and prices you're willing to pay. . . they'll email you as soon as airfare hits at or below that rate. You'll find out quicker that way. It takes a lot of constantly watching fares to know when they hit their low points. That'll be your best bet, rather than waiting for someone to happen to catch that one flight you need and think to come back and post it. Travelocity will send you an email alert pretty much immediately.

Check Kansas City to Tampa on Southwest. They are consistantly the cheapest from this area. Right now it is $72 each way. To Orlando it is $89 each way, but the difference can pay for a rental car so worth it to me to drive the hour and a half! If it goes lower, they can give you a credit or refund, whichever won't get me flamed!! I always check different options from St. Louis as it is a 3 hour drive to the airport from here, but right now it is more expensive. Not so a couple of years ago.
